A few weeks ago H suggested we participate in Chicago's Women's March (a sister march of the Women's March on Washington). At the time we were busy with the holidays, so I didn't give it much thought. But it really is the perfect opportunity for us to act and show our daughter that you should stand up for the things that you believe in.

Cup of Jo did a great job explaining the basics about the Women's March on Washington and gave some great tips on what to bring. It's not a March against our incoming President, rather it's a March in support of women's rights and overall human rights -- something I've always strongly advocated for.

If you live in the Midwest and want to participate, please visit Women's March on Chicago for more information. You can search for other sister marches by zip code here.

life lately + 2017 goals

Hello there! It's been awhile since my last post -- I hope everyone enjoyed their holidays! We had four Christmases (!!) so December was crazy busy. It was so much fun to watch Violet experience the holidays and introduce her to new traditions. We watched Christmas movies -- she LOVED Frosty the Snowman and wanted to watch it almost everyday -- (we didn't. I ended up buying her this book instead). We made Christmas cookies together and she was such a great little helper! And she helped me decorate the Christmas trees (we had one in the living room and a small one in her playroom). It was really cute to watch her show off her "Crissmas teee" and other holiday decorations when anyone came to the house. And of course she was VERY happy about all those presents! It's hard to believe December is already over and it's the start of a new year! I always make resolutions/goals for the new year -- here's mine for 2017:

BLOG:
Ever since I had Violet I want to spend all of my free time with her. And then when we moved back to Illinois last May things got even busier with visits with friends and family. So that didn't leave much time for me to spend blogging. But I really miss this space and all of the other bloggers and readers I've met over the years. It's also important for me to have a creative outlet that doesn't involve construction paper and glue sticks... so I'm not going anywhere :) One of my goals for the new year is to get back on a semi-regular schedule.

REFLECT:
I want to continue a resolution that I made last year -- my daily "good things" journal. The days go by so fast and I want to space where I can reflect on everything. It's been really fun to look back at entries and see what we were up to a year ago (last January we were living in Charleston and Vi was starting to stand by herself!) I love these small notebooks.

SHOP RESPONSIBLY:
I wrote a conscious closet shopping post a few months ago and I've already bought a few things from ethical stores. My new favorite is Amour Vert, they are a little pricey, but their clothes are made in America with non-toxic dyes, sustainable fabrics, and a zero-waste philosophy. They also offer free shipping + returns. The two shirts I bought (Liv Relaxed V-Neck Tee + Jenna Softest Ballet Tee) are SO soft and comfortable. I'm excited to try other shops and share my favorites on this blog.

BUY A HOUSE:
We're still in our rental and our lease ends in June, but I'm hoping we'll find a home soon. I'm ready to settle down in Illinois and have a space of our own that we can decorate and really personalize.

Have a great weekend!!
