the city where you were born.

Last weekend I met one of my blogger and Instagram favorites Anna Weaver of Minted Photography and she took Violet's one year photos.

We met in downtown Charleston near Hibernian Hall and Washington Square. She took photos of Violet on the cobblestone street, in the park by the blooming azaleas and in front of pastel colored buildings with shutters and flower-boxes. It was the perfect backdrop and so Charleston -- exactly what I wanted Anna to capture. I know I'll cherish the photos forever. They will be a sweet reminder of the time we spent in South Carolina and the city where Violet was born, especially since we are moving back next month (!!).

Our move back to Illinois has been in the works for a few months. We love Charleston, but after my hospital stay in December H and I agreed it would be smart to live closer to family. The move is pretty bittersweet -- we just finished settling into our house and we have made really good friends here. That being said, we also have a lot of friends and family waiting for us in Illinois and we're so excited to see them more often.

We already sold our house in South Carolina and we are visiting Illinois next week to look at rentals in the western suburbs of Chicago. I'll try keep you posted on all the details, but don't be surprised if I don't post very often these next few weeks -- packing with a one-year old is not easy! Until then here are a few of my favorite blog-approved photos from Anna:

If you are in the South Carolina area and you're interested in a photographer I highly recommend working with Anna from Minted Photography. She was professional and really sweet (it was like hanging out with an old friend). Not to mention her rates are reasonable and her work is gorgeous!*

*This post was not sponsored. I was not asked to post my photos or write a review, I wanted to on my own. I paid the full price for the photos and I did not receive a discount.

baby's first Easter basket.

I filled Violet's Easter basket up last year with a handful of Cadbury creme eggs my grandma sent me. So yah... I didn't really "have it together" for my baby's first holiday. But she was only two weeks old, so can you blame me? This year I am more prepared and I can't wait to celebrate Easter with Violet's (second) first Easter basket. Here's what's inside:
for baby: bunny rattle c/o zubels (currently unavailable), flower snack keeper c/o Nuby filled with graduates puffs (I haven't met a baby who doesn't love this stuff!), crochet lil' dimples chick c/o zubels, lil' dimples bunny c/o zubels. and I LOVE LOVE her personalized basket c/o Juneberry Stitches -- The floral letters and lining and scalloped lace details are so pretty!

and for mom and dad -- all of our favorite Easter candy: marshmallow egg, robins eggs malted milk balls, starburst jellybeans, and of course mini Cadbury creme eggs.

Violet's First Birthday Party!

We celebrated Violet's first birthday on Sunday with friends and family. Vi was a little Southern Belle in her monogrammed ruffle bottom pink seersucker romper and she even tolerated her pink felt flower headband for a few photos. My parents and h's dad came into town for the party -- it was so nice to have family in town for the big day! She was very happy to get lots of attention from her grandparents, and I was grateful for their help putting all the decorations up and making the food. We decorated with fresh white azaleas and pink camellias from our backyard. And we made big fringe streamers out of pink, purple, blue, and white crepe paper. I made Violet her very own little three layer funfetti cake with tons of bright purple frosting. She didn't really smash the cake, but she had a good time eating the frosting :) It was such a fun little party -- here's a few photos:
DIY crepe paper streamers - papermart (I used this tutorial)
"pink big top circus" birthday banner c/o minted (I filled the letters in with this silver paint marker)
silver one cake topper c/o bash & co
confetti balloons c/o oh shiny paper company
silver heart cake toppers - papercyn

Happy Birthday Violet!!

friday five.

Happy Friday! Sorry I've been MIA this week. It's been a crazy one and I was really preoccupied with some not so fun home-ownership things. But I wanted to link up with ChristinaApril, and Natasha and share a few things that have been on my mind lately:
ONE: I bought the perfect-fit scoopneck tee from this post and I LOVE it. I just ordered another one in navy. It runs TTS and it's perfect for the in-between "it's cold in the morning but warm in the afternoon" spring weather.
TWO: Did you guys see the home makeover over on Cup of Jo? It was for Joanna's sister Lucy, who recently lost her husband to lung cancer. Lucy's reaction to her new home was really sweet and it made me cry.

THREE: Things are heating up in Charleston -- it was 75 yesterday and it's going to be in the 80's soon. Beach weather will be here soon and I have my heart set on a new bikini top.
FOUR: Violet's first birthday party is this weekend!! I still have a ton of things to do for it but I finally decided what's on the appetizer + dessert menu. I'm going to make pimento cheese cups, crockpot mini meatballs, caprese skewers, and a dip (that's still tbd!) and there will be a cookie cake (thank you Harris Teeter) + cupcakes! I can't wait to watch Vi smash her little birthday cake :)

FIVE: When Violet started drinking formula she refused to take a bottle -- which was frustrating at first. But then we realized we got to skip the whole weaning her from a bottle thing. She drinks from a small cup with our help. We really like these cups from Nuby. They are BPA free, dishwasher friendly, and small enough for her to hold by herself in the future.

Have a great weekend!

Easter favorites on Etsy.

I went to Target last weekend and I found myself in the seasonal section of the store -- sooo many bunnies, so much candy! I went home with some mini Cadbury cream eggs and Robin's Eggs for Violet's first Easter basket. I'm not confident the candy will last until Easter morning (and it's not like a 1-year old should eat candy anyways), so I want to buy some non-food items for her basket. And of course Etsy has all the cute things: Personalized Peep Leggings (too cute!) / Personalized Easter Basket (Violet's basket just shipped!) / Personalized Bunny Onesie (I love the floral fabric) / Personalized Jellycat Bunny (I LOVE these bunnies!! They would make a cute baby shower gift too) / Personalized Bunny Tag (A cute way to personalize a traditional basket) / Felt Peep BunniesBunny Beanie Hat / Pink Geeky Bunny Leggings

life lately.

Hi there! I thought I'd pop in and share a little update on what I've been up to lately:Loving: South Carolina sunsets... I can't get over how gorgeous they are!Eating: Cuban food at The Americano in Mount Pleasant. They have one of the best Cubano sandwiches I've ever had -- the steak and chicken tacos were tasty too. I wasn't a huge fan of the sweet beef empanadas, but everything else was delicious. I can't wait to go back.
Watching: Parenthood -- I just started season two and I really like it, but I have a feeling it's the kind of show that'll make me cry.Exploring: Last week we went to The Charleston Museum. It was H's first time visiting, and I haven't been since I was a teenager. The Charleston Museum is one of the first museum in America -- it was founded in 1773 and opened to the public in 1824. The Museum has a collection of Charleston furniture and silver, Lowcountry textiles, including costumes, quilts, and needlework (and when we visited there was a Wedding Fashion and Traditions in the South exhibit). Violet was a fan of the taxidermy animals, which makes me think we really need to get her to a zoo or the aquarium soon.

Shopping for me: This eye serum (I tried this cheaper cream and I wasn't really impressed). And a black Madewell belt (boring but I really needed one).
Shopping for baby: I can't get enough of this adorable Etsy shop (I just ordered the ballet pink and buttercup single flower headbands). They will look cute with the pink seersucker ruffle bottom bubble and yellow ruffle trim tank I bought her for summer.
