cornflake dreams.: February 2016

friday five.

Happy Friday! I'm linking up with ChristinaApril, and Natasha today to share five things:
ONE: St. Patrick's Day is coming up soon! This will be Violet's second St. Patty's Day -- we celebrated last year with my mom and really good soda bread.TWO: We just finished watching the first season of Better Call Saul - it was really entertaining (and it totally made me want to rewatch Breaking Bad).
THREE: I still have Saddlebags on my mind. Here are three options under $50: Cognac / Blush / Brown

FOUR: THIS list of HGTV tweets made me laugh :)
FIVE: Don't forget to enter the Zubels giveaway!

Have a great weekend!

shop crush: Zubels + a giveaway.

Full Disclosure: Thank you to Zubels for sponsoring this post and providing me with items to review. As always, all thoughts and opinions are my own.

Violet is allll about stuffed animals these days. She likes to give them a big hug (cutest thing ever), before she throws them over her shoulder. It's a big improvement from when she used to just poke at their eyes :/

One of my favorite places for soft stuffed animals is Zubels. They have a huge collection of adorable 100% cotton 14" and 24" dolls, 4" dimples, and hand rattles. All of the items are hand-knit, not mass produced, so each doll is unique (which I love). And there are a ton of different options -- here are a few of my favorites:
Zubels Dog and Catdogs and cats (I bought the brown and white puppy for my niece!)
Zubels Jungle Animalslions, tigers, and dinosaurs... #rawrZubels Ballerinasballerinas, cats, mermaids, bunnies, and penguins (Vi is getting the brunette ballerina for her first birthday!)
Zubels is generously giving away a 14" cotton knit doll to one lucky reader! Please enter below using the Rafflecopter widget. The winner will be emailed Tuesday, March 1, 2016. U.S. entries only please.
Good Luck!

floral favorites.

I've recently noticed that I wear a LOT of stripes. And I'm getting a little sick of them. So it's about time that I add a little variety to my wardrobe. I have always liked floral prints and these pieces are (almost) all under $100.
Strappy Blue Dress - the strappy racerback is cute / Floral Print Keyhole RomperSurplus Blue Front Romper - now that I'm not breastfeeding, I want to finally give rompers a try /  Kirei Floral Print Romper - The white and floral print is really pretty (I also like this tank in the same fabric)

Primrose Petals Ivory Floral Print Top - the wrap front and ruching at the waist looks really flattering / Selena Top - loving the contrast of light and dark colors / Sybil Tube Top - I'm fairly certain that I am too old to wear tube tops but I LOVE the vintage print -- It seems like something you'd wear in Hawaii. someday! / Portofino Shirt - this shirt would work in summer with jean shorts or white jeans too!

Are you a fan of floral patterns?

friday five.

Happy Friday! I'm linking up with Christina, April, and Natasha today to share five things:ONE: I loved the Misty Copeland and Degas photos in Harper’s Bazaar -- they are absolutely gorgeous!

TWO: I started watching Amy Sherman-Palladino's other show Bunheads to fill that Gilmore Girls void (ha! I realize how lame that sounds). But it is pretty entertaining to watch Gilmore characters (Gypsy, Paris, and Emily) on another show together. I've only watched a few episodes, but so far I like it. You can watch it online (for free) here.water replenishment mask / brightening infusion hydrogel mask / brightening mask

THREE: I've been thinking about trying a sheet mask. Even though they look pretty creepy, they look easy to use and less messy than traditional masks. Have you tried sheet masks? Do you have a favorite?

FOUR: I found a bunch of adorable baby ruffle bubbles on Etsy (where else!). I need to get Vi into one of these adorable outfits before she's too old to wear one (tear!)
FIVE: H wants to buy Violet some new books. These sound like keepers: The Wonderful Things You Will Be, Dragons Love Tacos, If I Could Keep You Little...

Have a great weekend!

life lately.

Loving: Mondays!! H switched to a four-day work schedule, so now he has Mondays off! I'm loving our three-day weekends together. We spent this past Monday walking around downtown, shopping and having lunch (and cupcakes!) It was fun to get out of the house and soak up the sunshine (especially now that it's getting colder).

Watching/Listening: Downton Abbey's final season (sad!) + listening to the Masterpiece Podcast -- the interviews with the cast are so interesting and I love the commentary after every episode.
Shopping for baby: Jellycats! Vi loves these sweet, soft stuffed animals. She charmed her dad into buying another one on Monday :) And I took advantage of some great sales over at Gap + Old Navy and bought Vi a few things -- including this adorable shift dress, a bright pink cardigan (under $10!), flutter-sleeve bubble dress, and a white eyelet dress.

Shopping for me: mama needs some new jeans! I stopped by Madewell on Monday and I am loving their 9" high riser skinny skinny jeans! I'm going back this weekend and taking advantage of their #bluejeansgogreen program -- donate a pair of your old jeans (any brand) and they'll give you $20 off a new pair (in stores). The old jeans will be used as installation in housing projects across the country.
Eating: Puppy Chow Chex Mix! I made a batch over the weekend and it's already gone. It was H's first time having it (crazy right?!)...he was a big fan. I think it's time to try a few new recipes!
Planning: Things to do for visitors! My aunt and her five (!!) kids are visiting next month for Spring Break. So I'm trying to figure out fun and budget-friendly ideas that kids in the 8 - 16 year old range will like to do. I'm just hoping it'll be warm enough to go to the beach, Waterfront Park and the Battery. Locals if you have any other ideas, please share!

baby girl spring favorites.

Shopping for baby clothes can be tricky. Violet is still wearing some of her 6-9 month onesies, but most of her pants are looking like short capris these days :) So I think it's time to start shopping around for some new clothes in the 12-month size range. I am loving Gap and Old Navy's new Spring collection:
baby girl spring clothes

pleated trench coat - I wish Gap made this coat in my size! / pink stripe top - stripes, embroidery AND scallops?! yes. please. / these ruffle trim chambray shorts would be perfect for spring and summer. / i'm loving the floral print on these spring blossom leggings. / now that Vi is taking some steps (!!) I want to buy allll the dresses (since walking in a dress seems much easier for babies than crawling in one) -- I love this pink pleated flutter dress and cherry blossom flutter dress / and every little lady needs a "wear with everything" navy cardigan.

Have a great weekend!
