five things

Happy Friday! This is my third post this week (!!) -- it feels really good to be back to my old schedule. I'm linking up with ChristinaApril, and Natasha to share a few things that have been on my mind lately:
ONE: It's Crohn's and Colitis Awareness week! For the most part my Crohn's symptoms are under control (thanks to a variety of medications and a restricted diet). I have good days and bad days, but I am very thankful not to be in the hospital like last December. If you have a question about Crohn's or just want to someone to talk to email me! It helps a lot to someone who understand what you are going through.
TWO: Let's talk about Gilmore Girls... I watched all four episodes of the revival over Thanksgiving weekend (if you haven't skip over this section). I was really happy with everything and by Spring (the second episode) it felt like the same old show-- it's amazing how most of the cast members didn't age and fell right back into their old characters. I LOVED Emily Gilmore's sassy one-liners (booty buddy!!), but I wish Jess, Sookie, and Lane had more scenes. I think they dealt with Edward Herrmann's (Richard Gilmore/Lorelai's dad) passing really well and the show paid a nice tribute to him. Some of the guest appearances were distracting -- Rachael Ray and some of the other celebrity chefs seemed unnecessary -- but I loved seeing all of the cameos from Parenthood and Bunheads. Rory had her issues and (for me) wasn't particularly likeable throughout the revival -- which is ok, characters with flaws make them more believable and the show more interesting. As for the last four words, I think they were perfect. The creator Amy Sherman-Palladino wanted the show to end with those words from the beginning, so how can you argue with that? I just hope they decide to do more episodes :)

pink + blue owl hand rattles (while Vi might be too old for rattles, she loves to shake things -- these can be used as little maracas!) / jolly mr. santa / ralphy the reindeer / poppy the penguin / moxie + scout the dachshunds

THREE: I started wrapping presents yesterday and I have almost everything together for Violet's stocking. I'm a big fan of Zubels stuffed animals, so she'll be getting this little guy in her stocking. The dolls are 100% cotton and are made with eco-friendly dyes! Use the coupon SM20 for 20% off your order.

FOUR: Sooo it turns out we are not buying that fixer upper house after all. Our final home inspection revealed that it needs a new roof, windows, AC unit, and furnace. The house quickly turned into a total money pit, and we're not ready to tackle that kind of project. Side note: I really love young Tom Hanks movies.
FIVE: My mom is coming over this weekend and we're making Christmas cookies! We are going to make our family favorites: my mom's sugar cookies, peanut butter blossoms with Hershey kisses, and nerds. I'd love to try a new recipe if we have time!

Have a great weekend!

  2. Oh no, sorry to hear about the house. You do not need a money pit. My friend bought a condo and waved the inspection and well, it turned out to be a money pit! It's horrible. Consider yourselves very lucky. Have a great weekend baking cookies!! So yummie.

  3. Yay for Christmas cookies! That will be so fun! Bummer about the house, but at least you realized all the work it needed now as opposed to after settlement!

  6. Okay so I can totally relate to you on money pit houses. It's equal parts awful and awesome when those reports come back. We just settled on our first house ever (eeek!), but not before we had a similar situation happen where a termite report came back and basically said the whole house was rotting..agh! I LOVE Christmas cookies and can't wait to start baking :)

    1. congrats on your home purchase! termite damage can be scary but you can repair the damage! we had a little termite issue with our last house in south carolina and we were able to fix it! good luck :)

  7. We love Zubels. Can you go back to the seller and ask them to replace at least the roof or cover half the cost of everything you listed? As long as you have good bones I say you should still go for it. While they might be costly they are all easy/simple fixes.

    1. We tried asking for money back and they didn’t want to give us any for the repairs. With all the work that needs to be done plus everything I want to do to the house — renovate the kitchen and bathrooms it just didn’t work out to put that much money into the house. We’ll find the one that is right for us— eventually!

  9. I loved 90% of the GG revival. Could've done without the musical number for example but overall loved it. I liked the last 4 words - leaves to the imagination to think what what will happen!? Agree on the cameos from Bunheads & Parenthood - those were so fun!

    1. I think the only reason i was ok with the musical was bc it had sutton foster in it — but i agreed it went on for a little too long! :)

  13. I didn't know it was Chron's/Colitis awareness week. I am sorry you have that, but happy it's under control. My husband had severe UC for a few years that progressed into colon cancer cells, so he had a total colorectomy about 6 years ago. He still struggles with symptoms, but it so much better than before.

  15. I want to make those cookies!! They all look so good. Those toys are a huge hit for the girls I nanny for. The little one has her mermaid that she drags around everywhere. Glad to hear your Crohns is under control--I remember your ordeal last year. Bummer about the house, but it sounds like it's for the best!
