life lately.

Sooo life has been pretty crazy lately. We had a great weekend but it was super busy and it flew by. My dad, sister-in-law and niece drove in from Illinois to meet Violet and drop off some furniture. It was sooo nice to see them and spend some time together even though their visit was short.
We took Violet to her first dinner out and she did great! She was happy to sit on my lap ;) And thankfully the restaurant was pretty noisy so when she got fussy towards the end no one was bothered by her crying. We took her out to another restaurant for breakfast the next morning and she was even better. I'm feeling more confident about taking her to restaurants now. hopefully we can visit our favorite burger spot when my mom is in town this weekend.

After my family left on Sunday H and I got to work packing up our place (which is pretty tricky when you have a two-month old to watch). We managed to get about 70% of our stuff packed, so we should be ready to move this Friday. I just hope the house is ready...
We stopped by our new place on Monday and they are making a ton of progress with popcorn ceiling removal and paint -- the bedrooms and bathrooms are finished! I am in love with our new navy master bedroom. But there's still a lot work to be done in the living room and kitchen. We need the painters to finish on time so we don't have any issues getting carpeting installed this week. I'm praying everything gets finished by Thursday night so my mom and grandparents have a place to stay that isn't a complete disaster!

I'm taking the rest of the week off to finish packing, cleaning, moving, and so I can spend some quality time with my family. I'll be sure to post some house updates and my mom and grandparents visit on Instagram!

Have a great week!

friday five.

Happy Friday and Memorial Day weekend! It's been a long week and I am excited to spend some time with my family who will be in town tomorrow. I'm linking up with April and sharing five things on my mind:
ONE: If all goes as planned, we are set to move into our new house next weekend. I am pretty excited about finally having a yard. It already has a little garden with grapes, blueberries, and blackberries. H has the green thumb in our house and he wants to plant some veggies and herbs. Charleston friends: what's your favorite thing to grow in your garden?TWO: We have a ton of visitors scheduled for the next few weeks. My dad, sister-in-law and niece are coming into town this weekend. My grandparents and mom visit the next weekend, then my father-in-law, and then two of my best friends visit in June! I'm so excited for everyone to meet Violet and stay with us in our new home :)THREE: It's warming up in Charleston and I've been nursing a sore throat and cough all week, so I made some fruity popsicles using fresh fruit and my favorite Evolution Fresh juice. Just mix a bottle of Defense Up Juice with 1/4 cup of pineapple juice and some fresh cut strawberries. Freeze in a Popsicle mold and enjoy!FOUR: After spending a small fortune on nesting baskets for Violet's nursery, I found a similar style at TJ Maxx online for a fraction of the price. Thankfully I was able to return one of the PB baskets I bought and replace it with the more affordable version.

FIVE: There's some great Memorial Day sales going on this weekend -- here are my favorites:

Anthropologie // 20% off sale
Banana Republic // 40% off use the CODE: BRSUMMER
BaubleBar // free shipping code MEMORIAL20 and save 20%; use the code MEMORIAL25 for 25% off 3 items; or the code MEMORIAL30 to save 30% on 4 or more items.
Gap // 40% off use the CODE: SUMMER
J.Crew // 30% off everything (including sale styles) use the CODE: WEEKEND
Land of Nod // 15% off everything use the CODE: SAVE15
Nordstrom // half-yearly sale, up to 40% off
Sam Edelman // up to 60% off sitewide + free shipping/ returns

Have a Happy Memorial Day weekend!

our south carolina color scheme.

We found our house after just a few months of house hunting. While there's a lot to love -- like the location and family-friendly neighborhood, the interior needs some work. I knew before we bought the house that everything needed to be repainted -- and thankfully H agreed. Our contractors got started working on the house within hours after we closed, but we finally made all of our paint choices last night. Nothing like waiting to the last minute right?!

We never bothered to paint our condo when we were living in Chicago because it had a nice neutral color palate. So it was exciting to decorate our new home and really make it our own. I knew I wanted a color scheme full of grays and blues, but I didn't realize just how many different shades are out there. I got overwhelmed pretty quick.

Pinterest to the rescue again! I went through all of my old home decor posts and picked out some favorites. I also received lots of great suggestions on Instagram (thank you!!) and talked to friends who recently decorated their home. Ali from Long Distance Loving was a HUGE help -- check out her gray paint post!

Here's our gray and blue South Carolina color scheme -- I can't wait to see how the colors look in our home:

Here's the breakdown:
Benjamin Moore Revere Pewter  living room, kitchen, hallways (This is a really popular paint color and I tried not to love it. But then I saw this before/after photo and I was convinced it's the perfect color for our place.)
Sherwin Williams - Zurich White — media room and upstairs guest room
Benjamin Moore Stonington Gray — Violet's nursery, dining room, master bathroom
Sherwin Williams Sea Salt — upstairs bathroom
Benjamin Moore Van Deusen Blue  master bedroom (I am SO excited about this bold navy color!)
Benjamin Moore Nantucket Fog  downstairs powder room

2015 summer bucket list.

H and I have a lonnng to-do list for our new place (shedule cable and internet installation, file papers for Charleston's city home tax, buy new locks...blah, blah, blah). So, I thought it would be fun to take a break from all of that and make another to-do list: a summer bucket list of FUN things. Some of these things will absolutely happen (like turning 30!!!) but I'm still including them because that means I can mark them off (and I'm the kind of crazy person where that makes me happy).
Move into our new home
Decorate Violet's nursery
Go antiquing with my mom and grandma
Turn 30 and celebrate with friends (locals and visitors!)
Show two of my best friends around town
Burgers at Poe's (it's been too long!)
Plant an herb garden
Visit the Downtown and James Island Farmers Markets
Swing on our backyard swing set :)
Make some s'mores
Find a baby seat for my bike and start riding again
Visit the Cypress Gardens
Start a book, brunch, or supper club (who's in?!)
Bake my own bread (and finally cross that off another list)
Visit the beach (I'm so excited to see Violet's reaction to the ocean!)

What's on your summer bucket list?

friday five.

Happy Friday! I'm linking up with April and sharing five things on my mind:
ONE: I am excited to start working on a home decor project with Chasing Paper! Thanks for your feedback over on Instagram -- I finally picked out a pattern and I can't wait to share it with you in a few weeks.
TWO: Cupcake Down South surprised me yesterday with a cupcake delivery to celebrate our new home! I've been a fan of this cupcake shop for years and I love their tasty seasonal flavors (my all-time favorite is Limon Blu). If you visit Charleston be sure to include them on your list of places to visit -- they are located on King Street downtown. And yes, their cupcakes taste just as good as they look! :)
THREE: I can't stop watching this season of Dancing With the Stars. I know. who am I?! But when we cut our cable and before we got Hulu it was one of the only shows that was on...so I had no choice but to watch :) Excuses aside it's really entertaining and I hope Rumor and Val win (although I loved this dance).
FOUR: I am loving my Converse Chuck Taylor Shoreline sneakers from Kicks USA! I've had these shoes on my wish list for a while now and they are really cute in person. The Shoreline style is a slimmer, slip-on version of the original Chuck Taylors.
FIVE: Don't forget to enter the Bella Materna t-shirt nursing bra giveaway!

Have a great weekend!

Bella Materna T-Shirt Nursing Bra Review + Giveaway.

Full Disclosure: I was provided with a complimentary product from Bella Materna to facilitate this post. As always, all thoughts and opinions are my own. Thank you for supporting brands that support Cornflake Dreams.

I'm back with another Bella Materna review and giveaway! I have been exclusively breastfeeding for the past two months and I've been wearing my Bella Materna wirefree anytime nursing bra quite a bit and it's a really comfortable bra. That being said, I'm excited to start giving the girls a little more support with an underwire bra. I recieved Bella Materna's sexy t-shirt nursing bra and I love it.
Underwire Nursing: Sexy T-Shirt Nursing Bra / Peacock Lace Pushup Nursing Bra
The bra has pretty, delicate sheer trim lace and it's easy to use while nursing. The patented Flexy-wires make this bra comfortable and the extra long (6-setting hook and eye) back closure allows you to wear it longer as your body changes. There's also an option to convert this bra into a traditional underwire bra. When you're finished nursing you or your tailor can remove the Infinity Rings from the center of the bra and attach them to where the nursing clips used to be.
Bella Materna is generously giving away a nursing bra to one lucky reader! Please enter below using the Rafflecopter widget. One winner will be emailed Thursday, May 21, 2015.
Good Luck!

loving lately: reef sandals.

Full Disclosure: Thank you to Reef for sponsoring this post. As always, all thoughts and opinions are my own.

My go-to beach flip flops are Reef Braided Cushion Sandals because they are super comfortable. I've been wearing them for years and I even got my mom hooked. She bought her own pair after trying on mine and last summer we were twinning in the Bahamas

One of the perks of living somewhere with great weather is I can wear my sandals longer. And now that beach season is almost here I want to add another pair to my closet. Here are my favorites:

Reef also has a great collection of sandals for guys (H could totally use an upgrade... His flip flops are looking sad).

What is your favorite style?

my first Mother's Day.

What a wonderful weekend! It was my first Mother's Day and it's one that I'll never forget. H isn't a big fan of birthdays (which is crazy to me because I celebrate mine for a week), but he was allll about Mother's Day. He surprised me with gifts, gelato, breakfast in bed and flowers. I got to nap, do yoga, and get plenty of snuggle time in with Violet. He set the bar pretty high for next year ;)
I feel incredibly lucky and happy lately. I am so in love with our daughter and I am thankful I can spend my days at home with her. She is growing so fast and my heart aches a little every time I see her smile, yawn, or stretch first thing in the morning. Being a mom is one of the most challenging things I have ever done, but everyday with our little girl is a gift.

I am so lucky to be your mom Violet and I love you with all of my heart.

Happy Mother's Day to all the mamas out there!

picnic in the park.

Full Disclosure: I received complimentary items from JJ Cole to review. As always, all thoughts and opinions are my own. Thank you for supporting brands that support Cornflake Dreams.

Thank you all SO much for your sweet comments on my last post! We're really excited to move into our new home. We visited James Island again over the weekend to get more familiar with the area, and we had a picnic at Sunrise Park by the water. The park has great views of Charleston Harbor and the Arthur Ravenel Bridge, and there is access to a small beach. I took advantage of our time outdoors to test out some new baby gear.
I switched up my go-to diaper bag with JJ Cole's Heather Caprice Diaper Bag. While I prefer the look of my leather tote bag, I'll admit this bag is more practical. It has a waterproof liner and TEN pockets (!!), which makes it a lot easier to stay organized. The exterior gray fabric is stylish and it's a neutral "dad" friendly color that H doesn't mind carrying. The bag is roomy enough to fit all of Violet's things and our snacks.

When we arrived at the park we noticed a three-person band playing (talk about great timing!). So we set up our picnic under a large tree and let them serenade us :) We used the Prairie Blossom Outdoor Blanket and I loved it! The blanket is waterproof with durable fabric that wipes clean (perfect for kids) and it folds up for easy storage. It's also lightweight so it won't weigh you down. I wish I owned something similar when we lived in Chicago and went to concerts and picnics at Millennium Park and Ravinia.

After we finished eating we walked around for a little bit, and I carried Vi in the Agility Carrier. The carrier is REALLY easy to slip on (there's no wrapping). It has a panel that distributes weight evenly and it does not twist (which is my main struggle with other traditional baby wraps). It offers multiple positions for a baby so you can use it as she grows. You can find it on AmazonBabies R UsbuybuyBABY, and Target

It was so nice to get out of the house for an hour or two and have lunch together in a new spot -- I can't wait to go back :)

What are your picnic essentials?

life lately.

Hello there! I hope you had a great weekend! Here's a little recap of what's going on in my life (spoiler alert: big news ahead):
Loving: Violet's adorable smiles in the morning! She is seven weeks old and she is getting so big :) I'm also loved my blogger brunch date with Caitlyn, Meg, and Jessica this weekend. And finally the flowers in Charleston are amazing -- the Azaleas were in bloom a few weeks ago and now there is Jasmine everywhere!

Loathing: So far I've been able to exclusively breastfeed Violet. But I know it would be nice to have a backup supply of milk, so I started pumping last week. I'm not a fan. Hopefully it'll all be worth it when H and I are finally able to go out on a date :)
Looking Forward to: We bought a house! We close next week and we move in at the end of the month. We are so excited to be staying in Charleston! H was offered a great job and we spent the last few months house hunting. We ended up finding a great place on James Island, so we'll be about 10 minutes from downtown and Folly Beach. This is our second home (we owned a condo back in Chicago) but this is the first one with a YARD and GARAGE. Yahhh!! that means no more storing our bikes in the laundry closet and we can finally plant a garden :) I'm also excited to finally decorate Violet's nursery.
Pinning: H made the mistake of watching a video of how lunch meat is made -- ugh. so gross. Now we want to eat more meatless meals, so I've been pinning lots of vegetarian meals. We made a Mediterranean Chickpea Salad last night and it was really tasty. I loved that it used a lot of fresh ingredients and we didn't have to turn on the oven.

Shopping: I'm starting to research things for our new home. There are a lot of rooms we need to furnish since we're moving from 650 sq. ft. to over 2000 sq. ft. Stay tuned for some home decor posts -- I'll be searching for a comfy sectional, a kitchen table and chairs, and a cute door knocker in the next few weeks.

Watching: After all the drama on the last season of House of Cards, I've been watching shows that make me laugh: blackish, Fresh Off the Boat, and The Last Man on Earth.

friday five.

Happy Friday! I'm linking up with Christina, April, Natasha, and Darci and sharing five things on my mind:
ONE: I'm still nursing around the clock so I spend a lot of time on my iPhone -- specifically Instagram. I'm kinda over the perfectly curated flowers posts and I prefer pages that make me laugh -- @kidsaretheworst and @thefatjewish make me laugh a LOT :) I'd love to know what funny pages you follow...
TWO: H and I finally finished House of Cards the other night...wowzah! I can't wait for the next season to start. In the meantime, I am excited about the return of OITNB (season 3 starts 6/12).THREE: The other day we stopped by Baguette Magic on James Island and picked up a buttery croissant and a pain au chocolat... they were SO good. And now I'm dreaming of this Croque Monsieur croissant sandwich #mondieu
FOUR: There's still time to enter the Lulujo Turkish Towel giveaway!
FIVE: I received a really cute personalized burp towel and play blanket for Violet from the Threaded Linens Etsy shop! And lucky you, I'm hosting a giveaway over on Instagram (just follow me and @threadedlinens, and tag a friend) to enter to win a set of personalized burp cloths.

Have a great weekend!
