hello, baby cornflake!

If you follow me on Instagram then you already know little Miss Violet made an early arrival last Saturday!! We're so completely in love :) Thank you for your sweet comments, texts, and emails! I'll be taking a few weeks off from blogging to spend some quality time with our little girl.
Jillian + H + Violet

friday five.

Happy Friday! yes...still pregnant. Happy 39 weeks (and thanks for all the instagram love)! I'm linking up with Christina, April, Natasha, and Darci, here's five things on my mind:
ONE: I made a batch of lactation cookies the other day using Jane's recipe. They taste great -- but new mama Caitlyn advised I wait until after I have the baby and my milk comes in to eat more cookies. That way I'll reduce the risk of becoming crazy engorged #yikes. Thankfully I froze most of the dough so it'll be easy to avoid the temptation to eat all the cookies.
TWO: Gap has tons of adorable little dresses, rompers, and sandals for baby girls (and bonus everything is 30% off with the code SPRING).
THREE: I've been wanting to incorporate more meatless dinners into our weekly rotation, and I found a few recipes on Pinterest I'd love to try. Do you have any favorite meatless meals --that isn't pasta?
FOUR: Minted is celebrating the arrival of Spring with 15% off sitewide (now until Monday, March 16). The promotion includes baby announcements and art for the nursery or for your bedroom.

FIVE: Downtown Charleston is FINALLY opening up a Chipotle on King Street! I can't wait to get my burrito bowl + guacamole fix :)

Have a great weekend!

spring wish list.

It was 78-degrees in Charleston yesterday and today it'll be in the 80's, so it's safe to say that SPRING has arrived! I can't wait to see the city in bloom and I'm excited to pack away my winter sweaters. I've put together a short wish list of non-maternity spring clothes and accessories that I'd love to have in my closet:
-Layering necklaces: Rachael Ryen pave bar necklacebaguette bar necklace
-Nursing-friendly blouses: tuxedo camisole + draped pocket tank
-Gerard Yosca Daisy Patch Necklace -- the perfect floral necklace for Spring
-A light + long airspun cardigan
-Jcrew Parker crossbody bag (I bought this yesterday...I'll keep you posted if it's a keeper or not!)
-A simple watch and a new pair of black and tan sandals
-Essie nail polishes: mini how high for a fresh manicure + bump up the pumps for a bright pedicure

What's on your Spring wish list?

pregnancy favorites.

Now that my pregnancy is winding down I thought it was time to share some of my favorite maternity items. Spoiler alert: you don't really need to buy a ton of things when you're expecting, but these picks have made the last 9 months a little brighter:
-Mama Mio Tummy Rub Butter and Mama Mio Boob Tube - I just finished my third jar of Mama Mio Tummy Rub Butter last night... it's safe to say I love this stuff. It's super thick, smells great and so far it's kept stretch marks away.

-Gummy prenatal vitamins with DHA - it was easy to add this vitamin into my morning routine...who doesn't like candy?!

-bkr Water Bottle - any water bottle will do but it's important to keep yourself (and the baby) hydrated.

-Get moving with some new sneakers! I tried to stay as active as possible throughout my pregnancy and it helped keep my energy up and excess weight gain down. I gained a total of 30lbs but I know it was needed for my baby to grow and to be healthy. I loved doing yoga and other maternity workouts but walking is great too -- and a wonderful way for you and your partner to spend quality time together.

-Read: Secrets of The Mommyhood: Everything I wish someone had told me about pregnancy, childbirth and having a baby - This was the most entertaining and helpful book I read, it was filled with a lot of useful tips. (I also liked Jo Frost's Confident Baby Care for more practical advice).

-Write down memories in a Welcome Baby Book before you're too sleep deprived to remember how you felt when you were pregnant.

-Once you hit the second trimester you probably should switch to sleeping to your side at night to avoid backaches. I used the Bump Nest Pregnancy Pillow for the majority of my pregnancy and it helped me stay on my side throughout the night. A regular body pillow works too!

-And remember to keep your maternity wardrobe simple and dress in layers!

What are your pregnancy favorites?

weekend good things.

Good morning...well, I'm still pregnant :) ! I think Vi is going to hang out for a while - good thing she still has a week and a half until her due date. H and I keep talking about how things are going to change (so many good things!) In the meantime we're trying to spend as much quality time together as possible. And based on the photos I took over the weekend: eat everything in sight.
On Friday we took a quick trip to the gym, had Jimmy Johns for dinner (my favorite), and watched a couple of episodes of House of Cards and Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt (I like to watch comedies before bed!) We ran some errands on Saturday, went to the gym, and I made steak fajitas for dinner (so good!). Later that night we wandered over to Kaminsky's for a sweet treat -- they have the best brownie sundaes! On Sunday I met up with the girls for brunch at Park Cafe and it did not disappoint. The food was delicious and the cafe decor was beautiful. We shared some Danish popovers and I couldn't resist ordering the avocado toast with bacon on the side. I make avocado toast all the time for lunch, so I was pleasantly surprised with how good it was. Their avocado toast is made with super thick bread and topped with lemon, red pepper flakes, and sea salt -- it took me to a happy food place. After brunch H and I went to Lowes where I found the perfect white table/garden stool for the nursery. Later we soaked up the sunshine and went on a long walk around our neighborhood (I was pretty excited to wear sandals and a maxi dress in March-- hello, Spring!!)

loving lately: Plucky Mustard Custom Onesies + a Giveaway.

Full Disclosure: I received a complimentary item from Plucky Mustard to review. As always, all thoughts and opinions are my own. Thank you for supporting brands that support Cornflake Dreams.

I discovered Plucky Mustard on Etsy a few months ago when I was shopping for baby clothes. Plucky Mustard makes custom hand-painted onesies and toddler tees -- you can specify the color and name or phrase. They also have adorable brother and sister sets, holiday prints, and onesies with Beatles lyrics -- my favorite is "here comes the sun!". Debra, the owner and designer, uses special non-toxic, water-based fabric paint to create the tees and onesies. The painted design will not bleed or run and the onesies do not require special washing instructions. I LOVE the ballet pink name heart print onesie Debra made for Violet. I've already washed and packed it in my hospital bag for the big day!

bumpdate: 9 months.

How far along: I'm 38 weeks today! Now I'm just counting down the days until we get to meet Vi!

Size of the baby: According to the My Pregnancy app our baby is the length of a leek (roughly 19.5 inches long) and she weighs around 6.8 pounds.

Gender: little miss Violet Mae

How do you feel? Up until last week I was feeling great -- now I have lower back cramps and bump cramps (maybe Braxton Hicks Contractions?). I'm hoping this is a sign labor will start soon.

Eating/Cravings: Eating: I've been on a brunch kick lately -- I eat scrambled eggs all the time for lunch, so when I go out I want french toast and a little bit of whatever h is eating :) Craving: I'd love to have some spicy Indian food to get the labor party started. and
I think I'm finally over my burgers and fries cravings....phew.

Miss anything? Sitting in the front seat of our car, long yoga workouts, not peeing all the time, and BLUE CHEESE.

General mood: EXCITED! Now that we're getting closer to the due date I keep thinking about how things will be when our baby is here!

Fears: I've been trying to stay optimistic and positive about labor -- but it still scares me. Bring on the epidural!

Sleep: I wake up a few times a night to pee and from back cramps but overall I'm still getting enough sleep.

Workouts: I'm still working out at least 5 times a week but I have been doing less yoga and more walking. I love love using my foam roller to roll out my sore muscles.

Things I am looking forward to: Meeting Violet and seeing her dad hold her :) !!

Best moment this month: Being totally surprised by h's co-workers with a baby shower lunch last week :) it was so thoughtful. And we met with a really wonderful pediatrician last night (check and check!)

Shout out to my baby daddy: Thank you H for taking this month's artsy fartsy bumpdate pic :) and for practicing swaddling techniques on our "baby" (we used a rolled up towel).

Maternity clothes: My leggings, tanks, tees, and cardigans are still on repeat. But I'm not going to lie I'm totally over wearing the same things all the time.

Purchased/ Currently in my shopping cart: Non-maternity items (WAHHOO!) I'm loving my jean jacket and I really want a new pair of black sandals and a post pregnancy body friendly swing tank top for Spring and Summer. I also want to buy a couple of storage bins and a
 lamp for the nursery

weekend good things.

Happy Monday! Another weekend has flown by and with my 38-week mark almost here (CRAZY!) I'm officially on baby labor watch :) :)

Last Friday H's co-workers surprised us with a baby shower and lunch at California Dreaming. The baby shower was SO sweet and totally unexpected! It was the first time I met all of h's co-workers and we had a great time chatting about babies and travel. And I finally got my cheesecake fix! Later that night we went to the gym, I made some sriracha peanut butter cookies (stop by tomorrow for the recipe and a giveaway) and we watched a few episodes of House of Cards.

The next day we met up with some friends for brunch at Bull Street Gourmet and Market. I had the almond french toast -- it was crusted with chopped almonds and cornflakes and served with strawberries -- sooo delicious!! H ordered a Croque Madame sandwich -- toasted brioche with ham, gruyere cheese, creamy b├ęchamel sauce and a sunny side up egg -- I couldn't resist stealing a few bites :) It was one of the best brunches I've had in a long time and there was no wait for a table, which is pretty rare in Charleston! I can't wait to go back so I can try their lunch menu. After brunch we met with a potential pediatrician but unfortunately we weren't a fan. We got back to the house in time for H to watch a soccer game and I took a quick nap. We ended the night with more HOC (we only made it to episode 5, so no spoilers please!).

On Sunday we braved the rain and took a quick trip to the outlet mall. I found the cutest jean jacket on major sale and H bought some shoes and a jacket. Afterwards we went to the gym -- these days most of my workout consists of waddling around the track :) I finally finished packing my hospital bags that night and watched the Downton Abbey season finale (how is it already over?!).
