slow cooker recipes to try.

I received a slow cooker a few years ago for Christmas but I wasn't a huge fan because it usually burnt our food. I think it was on steroids...or I really struggle with cooking. I make most of our meals without burning down the kitchen, so the supercharged Crock-Pot had to go. But lately I've been thinking it might be nice to get another crockpot, especially with a baby on the way. That, and after I posted about steak last week, I realized it would be easier to make Philly Cheesesteak sandwiches in a slow cooker. ok. SOLD! I found an affordable Crock-Pot at Target and I now I can't wait to make these healthy-ish dinner recipes:
Skinny Chicken Pot Pie / Pulled Pork Gyros / Chicken Tikka Masala /Spicy Beef & Bell Pepper / Quinoa, Chicken and Kale Soup / Stuffed Bell Peppers (this is one of my favorite slow cooker meals, my parents used to make it all the time when I was younger).

What is your favorite thing to make in your slow cooker?

  1. I LOVE my crock-pot!! It is so nice to come home and dinner is ready. I will put a pull chicken in the crock-pot in the morning with some seasoning, and when I come home it is either done or almost done. I enjoy cooking, but sometimes it is nice to have dinner ready when I get home. I will have to try some of these recipes.

  4. Oh glad you ended up getting one! I think you'll appreciate it with a babe around :) I def love the philly cheese steak recipe, balsalmic chicken, and mac n cheese (Newlyweds: North recipe!). I also make plain chicken with some seasoning, shred it, and then use it for salads, quesadillas, etc. throughout the week

  5. I love throwing pork shoulder in the crockpot. I rub it with Hawaiian sea salt and garlic and just cook on low for 10-12 hours. It's delicious once it's finished and results in a ton of leftovers.

  9. You are going to love having a (functional) crockpot! Especially with the baby I'm sure - nothing better than having dinner cook itself!

  18. The stuffed peppers and those soups look and sound delicious. Thank you for sharing. I have never used a crockpot, I always just this one pot that I call my caldron pot because it kind of reminds me of one haha. I got one for my sister who has two little ones but she hasn't mentioned that she has used it. :-( I think that it will absolutely be a huge help to you though once the baby arrives! :-)

  19. the pot pie and tikka masala look ahhhmazing. i never thought about making stuffed peppers in the crock pot. i dont eat a lot of meat, so we rarely use our crockpot.. there's not a ton of recipes you can make that are gluten free and vegetarian, besides chili or whatever.

  20. LOVE my crock pot!! It's the best thing ever and I have one where you can set the cook time and after it's finished cooking it switches to warm, so you can leave it all day if needed. I have several crock pot recipes that I love. Rachel Schultz's Thai Peanut Chicken is a huge hit at our house. I also have a good white chicken chili recipe on my blog. Enjoy your new kitchen toy!

  21. Chicken pot pie was a go-to till I realized how sick the cream of chicken soup was making me :( Chicken tacos (cooking in salsa and spices) or buffalo chicken (cooking in buffalo sauce) are definite wins for easy and tasty dinners! I'm curious about this tikka masala!

  22. That’s so strange about burning the food! I’ve never had that happen, so I bet the crockpot was off. I have a whole crockpot board on my pinterest page that has lots of my favorites on there. White chicken chili in there can’t be beat!

  23. I made the skinny pot pie recipe recently and it came out just as good as it looks. Now I have to try your Tikka Masala recommendation! I love Indian food but have never attempted to cook it from scratch.

  25. I definitely need to make better use of my slow cooker - it's so handy to be able to throw everything in at once in the morning and then have dinner ready to go. Especially handy with a hubby whose schedule is unpredictable - these kinds of meals are ready to go in a range of time and are things that tend to re-heat well if he ends up getting home really late, as opposed to things like pasta that need to be eaten right now when they're done! Looks like a great recipe roundup - thanks for sharing!

  27. That Tikka Masala is calling my name! Never seen a Crockpot recipe for it before. One of my favorite slow cooker recipes is Barbacoa Beef from Designer Bags and Dirty Diapers. It's SO good on tacos.
