cornflake dreams.: my favorite winter beauty products.

my favorite winter beauty products.

Moving to Charleston from Chicago has dramatically reduced how dry my skin gets in the winter. In Chicago I used to get really dry legs, and my skin on my hands would turn red and crack...it wasn't pretty. Now that I live somewhere warmer with more humidity in the air my skin doesn't dry out as fast, but I still do what I can to help keep my skin hydrated. I have developed a nighttime beauty routine that involves a variety of lotions:

Face: Clinique Dramatically Different moisturizing lotion - I have been using this since I was 16 and it hasn't let me down yet. It provides enough moisture to hydrate my face without leaving it greasy.
Lips: Nivea A Kiss of Smoothness Hydrating SPF 10 Lip Care - I use this almost everyday, unless I switch it up for Aquaphor Lip Repair when I have really chapped lips.
Legs: Whish Almond Hair Inhibitor Gel - This gel keeps my legs hydrated and slows future hair growth. I also love that it's made out of organic ingredients.
Baby belly + boobs: Mama Mio Tummy Rub Butter - I have used this super thick cream throughout pregnancy, designed to keep stretch marks away (so far it's working!). I also use Mama Mio Boob Tube to help the ladies stay firm. I like that both lotions have light, refreshing scents that aren't overwhelming.
Hands: Aveda Hand Relief Hand Lotion - This is my go-to hand lotion, I love the rich scent. It soothes really dry, chapped hands. I also use L'Occitane Almond Delicious Hand Cream for something with a light almond scent (my favorite).
Feet: Gold Bond Healing Foot Therapy Cream - This super thick cream has a very light scent and I love to use it right out of the shower. For something with a stronger scent I use the Aveda Foot Relief Foot Cream -- it's a little minty.
Arms and everywhere else: Lubriderm Daily Moisture Lotion for Normal to Dry Skin - This lotion is fragrance free and soaks into your skin fast.

In the shower I use Fresh Sugar Lychee Bath & Shower Gel (fruity scent with a great lather) or L'Occitane Almond Shower Oil (the oil softens and hydrates your skin) and Whish Shave Crave shaving cream. When my scalp is dry I use Head & Shoulders Dry Scalp Care with Almond Oil Shampoo twice a week. The Almond Oil version smells much better than their original formula and leaves my hair super shiny and flake-free.

I use that Aquaphor lip stuff though and its great. . Oooh Chicago winters!!! Aren't you glad that you don't have to deal with them anymore? Haha. I hope that it's a beautiful day there!

  5. Aquaphor has saved me a million times. That stuff is so hydrating. Also I love the whish shaving cream for the same reasons. The grapefruit is my favorite.

  14. hmmmmm i think i will need to check out that shampoo! it gets pretty humid here in KY but my skin dries out super easy, perhaps because it spent the first 24 something years somewhere it didn't get anywhere near as cold. my hands are the worst - they crack like you said yours used to. Ouch! I use the Lubriderm and it works wonders!

  18. You can never have enough good lotion (especially hand cream!) here with the constantly shifting temperatures. And of course my 11 year old self immediately read the word "douche" when your post popped up hah. That is all.
