While my parents were in town this Christmas, we took a trip out to Middleton Place Plantation. Middleton Place is a National Historic Landmark and home to America’s oldest landscaped gardens. The plantation is located 30 minutes outside of downtown Charleston and it features 65 acres of beautiful grounds and gardens. Visitors can choose from a variety of ticket packages -- we went with the "Spend-The-Day" option which included: general admission, house museum tour, and a carriage ride (it was a great way to see everything). My parents and I love taking tours but H gets bored easily... so he ran off and took some (gorgeous) photos, while we learned about the history surrounding the main house ruins and gardens. The main house was destroyed during the Civil War and an earthquake but the gardens and grounds are really beautiful. It was also fun to walk around the plantation stableyards and see some farm animals (this would be a real treat for kids!) I've been to a few other Plantations in Charleston (Drayton Hall, Boone Hall, and Magnolia Plantation), but Middleton Place is one of my favorites.
