cornflake dreams.: weekend good things.

weekend good things.

How was your Thanksgiving?! We went to Chicago for a few days and it was really wonderful. We flew out of Charleston on Wednesday night and arrived early to avoid the holiday rush. Thankfully there weren't any long lines and we got into to Chicago with enough time to get Portillos for dinner.
On Thanksgiving day we got together with h's brother and his wife, and a few other family friends. My favorite part of dinner (per usual) was dessert:
My father-in-law got pies from Hoosier Mama Pie Company (a super cute little local pie shop). Pumpkin Pie has been my favorite dessert for years but Hoosier Mama's Pecan Pie was just as good! I did some online shopping on Black Friday (here are my favorite sales -- some of them are still going on today). And later that day, we met up with my mom for deep dish pizza Gino's East. It was my first time visiting and I wasn't a huge fan of the pizza but it was really nice to spend some time together. Afterwards we braved the crowds and went to Woodfield AND Oakbrook Mall. I know... crazy people, I rarely go out to stores on Black Friday, but it was actually fun and I found a few gifts for my family. Later that night we met up with friends for dinner at Flo (another West Town favorite!)

On Saturday, we had one last meal with the family at Bow & Stern before we headed back to the airport. Our trip was short but very sweet. I got a little homesick while I was there, but thankfully there will be lots of opportunities to visit Chicago in the future.
We returned to Charleston on Saturday night without any major stress or delays (we missed the crazy rush at the airport again!) We took advantage of the warm weather the next day, and walked around downtown. Later that night we put up our Christmas decorations and itty bitty tree :) I'm so excited to finally start watching Christmas movies!

How was your weekend?
