shopping hits and misses.

It's been a few months since my last shopping hits and misses post, so I thought I would update you on a few of my favorite recent purchases (and the things that didn't work out).
hits: GiGi New York Taylor Tote Bag in Saddle - I splurged with this bag and I plan on using it as one of my diaper bags (I'll also use my Lo & Son's OMG bag). I absolutely love this tote, it's super roomy and fully lined, which will be helpful for those inevitable bottle spills. The tote was worth the investment for me because I know it's something I'll love long after it's used as a diaper bag. When I was home, my mom surprised me with small and large Truffle Clarity Pouches (she's so hip!). The pouches will help keep things inside my diaper bag organized.

I also bought a few maternity pieces: a 3/4 sleeve black and white striped scoop-neck top and a long white tank top both from ASOS. They are pretty basic, so I can wear them during pregnancy and a few months after delivery.
baby hits: I received quite a few 0-3 month onesies for baby M so I think we're set on that age range. So lately I've been shopping for summer outfits in the 3-6 month range and I found a ton of cute things (all on sale, since it's out of season). Here are my favorites: striped bubble shorts (in coral and purple) / baby blue ikat onesie anchor smocked dress / dot flutter dress (my favorite!). And a few pants for baby's first winter: jersey heather pants (in solid gray and gray stripe) / ruffled polka dot leggings.

and now the misses:
Yosi Samra leopard ballet flats - These ballet flats have been on my wish list for months, so when ShopBop had their family and friends sale I didn't hesitate to purchase them. I received the shoes a few days later (hooray for fast, free shipping) but right after I opened the box I saw a care instructions card -- it said, "We recommend you take special care to maintain the beauty of this product by avoiding contact with water (including rain), grease, lotions, etc. Keep away from heat or direct sunlight, as prolonged exposure can slightly alter color. Natural oils from your feet may cause color to rub off." Soooo basically these are some really adorable shoes that you CAN'T actually wear outdoor (or even put on your feet because they will wear very fast?!) no thank you. The weather in Charleston can be very unpredictable, so these shoes would be a pain if rained. I might have considered keeping them if I still worked in an office and kept shoes to wear only indoors at work, but I don't...so I returned them.

Piko tees - Even though I received a lot sweet comments about these tees on my post last week, I just couldn't keep them. They were giant and I felt like I was wearing a tent. I might regret this decision in a few months when I actually need to wear a tent but for now I'm happy they are out of my closet.

Do you have any favorite shopping hits?

  1. What a bummer about the shoes - pretty much defeats the purpose if you can't wear them outside LOL!! I love the Lo& Sons bag...I've had my eye on one for a while!

  3. Love that GiGi NY bag! And all your baby clothes are adorable! That's too bad abou the Piko shirts. I'm glad you mentioned that bc I was thinking about purchasing some. I don't like the feeling of having "wings" on my tops either :)

  12. So sad, those shoes are so cute! But they need to not make them out of such fragile material! They're shoes, they're going to get a little wet and dirty! Love your bag and all of the baby stuff is adorable!

  16. I think most calf hair shoes should probably be taken care of by YS's instructions but they are just truthful enough (and covering their butts for warranty purposes!) to add it into their shoeboxes. lol!

Also as a 3rd time mother, I would recommend less newborn and size 0-3 months clothes and more of the bigger stuff. They live in their pi's the first weeks of their lives and they grow super fast! Love your choices so far!!

  17. That sucks about the Yosi Samra shoes! Glad I didn't end up buying a pair! I figured the Piko shirt would swallow you. It's crazy how big they run!

  18. That totally stinks about those flats! We sell those where I work too. They do have leather versions though so maybe check those out? I mean what is the point of getting shoes if you can't wear them outside?! Those baby clothes are adorable though. If I had a little girl on the way, I'd be breaking the bank buying her stuff lol.

  24. I have a great TB diaper bag, but I feel like it is so heavy! Too bad it was a gift...otherwise I would have returned it for something lighter. Love yours though!

  29. that is crazy about those shoes. so basically u can wear them around the house--totally practical! and you don't look like a tent in that. no way, lady.

  30. even if you kept the shoes for now and wore them around the house, your babe would inevitably choose to spit up on them the first time you wore them around the house! bummer!
