My 2014 New Years resolution was to take the time to say thank you. Coincidentally I have a lot of really wonderful things to be thankful for this year:

I am thankful for a healthy and happy pregnancy -- at 24 weeks I feel fantastic. I love seeing my bump grow and feeling little kicks throughout the day. We love you already Violet!

I am thankful for my supportive husband, who inspires me to be a better person and makes me laugh everyday. H -- you are going to be an amazing bābā.

I am thankful for my friends and family who keep in touch with weekly emails, texts, and phone calls. They are always there to support me (and calm me down when I worry about crazy baby things).

I am thankful we get to live in Charleston, South Carolina. It's a beautiful city with friendly people and great food.

and finally... I am thankful for pumpkin pie :)

Have a very Happy Thanksgiving friends!

a nursery for baby cornflake.

I hit the 23-week mark yesterday and I think the nesting thing finally kicked in. I vacuumed the whole house (including the couch and fridge -- I know, I'm a weirdo), changed the sheets, and reorganized the baby's clothes (again) by size. Sooo I'm sure you can imagine that it makes my nesting/control-freak-self sad that I can't actually decorate a nursery before the baby gets here. Baby M will be taking over our living room until we move out of our rental -- which is about 3+ months after the baby arrives. But that doesn't mean I can't start planning or shopping...
I want our nursery to be a warm and inviting room, with white furniture, grey accents, and pops of pink. I hope it all comes together in the end and I have already stocked up on a few things:

The modern Honest 4-in-1 Convertible Crib and our vintage changing table (my great-grandmother's refinished dresser) will be the main pieces of furniture in the nursery. I want to keep things neutral for the bedding with a mix of gray sheets (I love the super soft Mini Dot and Grey Elephant patterns). And I couldn't resist the sweet Pink Swan pattern sheets!

For wall decor I bought a few prints on Etsy over a year ago (yeeep...wishful thinking), thankfully I still love the illustrations - Jungle Nursery Alphabet art printA Jolly Read PrintRoyal Elephant art print -- from the Trafalgar's Square shop (they are currently having a sale -- receive 25% off orders over $20 with code FALL25 at checkout). I recently purchased a pretty Rifle Botanicals Garland for a personalized accent.

My mom has generously offered to buy us our rocker and I have my eye on the Toby Modern Upholstered Glider and Ottoman (both in Talbot Cement Fabric). I saw the glider when I was in Chicago and it is gorgeous!

Nursery Wish List:
I think a colorful rug would tie the whole room together. I love this Pakistani Pink and Black Wool Rug, but I'd actually love to get a pink Persian rug to celebrate her Persian-German-Irish-Hungarian culture.

I want to frame all of the prints in simple White Gallery Frames and add a Map print to the room to inspire Baby M to travel :) You can't beat the $5 price tag of this one.

For some finishing touches I want a few Nesting Floor Baskets for easy toy and blanket storage, a pretty Throw Pillow for the glider, and one more set of gray patterned sheets.

my christmas wish list.

Can you believe Thanksgiving is next week?! I am sooo behind on my holiday shopping this year... ugh. I've rounded up a few $50 and under gift picks on Pinterest but I need to get moving. Til then I am linking up with AprilEliseKatie, and Zelle and sharing a Few of My Favorite Things:

-"I don't really need any more jewelry," (said no one ever).... I am loving the star details on this Elizabeth and James bracelet

-I use Urban Decay eyeshadow almost every day, so it'd be fun to experiment with more colors from the Urban Decay Naked3 Palate

-A girl can't have too many Zooey Deschanel classic pj's

-Now that I live somewhere that isn't crazy cold, I'd love a pair of super soft Cashmere Gloves and cozy slippers (this less expensive pair is cute too).

-I love my new floral iphone cover but a girl needs options... this scallops iPhone 5c case is cute too!

and It's totally normal to put something for your baby on your christmas wish list...right? :) ok good because I can totally picture our little girl running around in these rufflebutt bloomers. (haha isn't that the perfect name?!) And I'd love to add these dreamy star print crib sheets and wool felt night sky mobile to her nursery.

What's on your Christmas wish list?

home goods: Kalyana Textiles.

Full Disclosure: I received complimentary items from Kalyana Textiles to review. As always, all thoughts and opinions are my own. Thank you for supporting brands that support Cornflake Dreams.

Kalyana Textiles makes beautiful Indian block print quilts, cushions & table linens in a range of vibrant, coastal-inspired colors. Their traditional designs have a touch of modern style. All of Kalyana Textiles' products are handcrafted by artisans in Rajasthan, India using the ancient tradition of block printing. They also offer a number of kantha quilts, which are screen printed by hand and then sewn together with a traditional type of running stitch called "kantha." All products are printed on 100% cotton fabric with eco-friendly Azo free dyes. I love their collection of cushions which comes in a variety of blue and white patterns -- my favorite color combination!Aparna, the owner of Kalyana Textiles was sweet enough to send over two Leela Cushions in Indigo for me to review. The 20" x 20" cushions add the perfect pop of color and pattern to our mostly neutral master bedroom. The Leela cushion has a pretty hand-blocked Persian inspired pattern, something I thought H would appreciate. I love the rich indigo color and delicate curvy details. I also think the cushions would look great in the living room mixed in with our other navy throw pillows.

shopping hits and misses.

It's been a few months since my last shopping hits and misses post, so I thought I would update you on a few of my favorite recent purchases (and the things that didn't work out).
hits: GiGi New York Taylor Tote Bag in Saddle - I splurged with this bag and I plan on using it as one of my diaper bags (I'll also use my Lo & Son's OMG bag). I absolutely love this tote, it's super roomy and fully lined, which will be helpful for those inevitable bottle spills. The tote was worth the investment for me because I know it's something I'll love long after it's used as a diaper bag. When I was home, my mom surprised me with small and large Truffle Clarity Pouches (she's so hip!). The pouches will help keep things inside my diaper bag organized.

I also bought a few maternity pieces: a 3/4 sleeve black and white striped scoop-neck top and a long white tank top both from ASOS. They are pretty basic, so I can wear them during pregnancy and a few months after delivery.
baby hits: I received quite a few 0-3 month onesies for baby M so I think we're set on that age range. So lately I've been shopping for summer outfits in the 3-6 month range and I found a ton of cute things (all on sale, since it's out of season). Here are my favorites: striped bubble shorts (in coral and purple) / baby blue ikat onesie anchor smocked dress / dot flutter dress (my favorite!). And a few pants for baby's first winter: jersey heather pants (in solid gray and gray stripe) / ruffled polka dot leggings.

and now the misses:
Yosi Samra leopard ballet flats - These ballet flats have been on my wish list for months, so when ShopBop had their family and friends sale I didn't hesitate to purchase them. I received the shoes a few days later (hooray for fast, free shipping) but right after I opened the box I saw a care instructions card -- it said, "We recommend you take special care to maintain the beauty of this product by avoiding contact with water (including rain), grease, lotions, etc. Keep away from heat or direct sunlight, as prolonged exposure can slightly alter color. Natural oils from your feet may cause color to rub off." Soooo basically these are some really adorable shoes that you CAN'T actually wear outdoor (or even put on your feet because they will wear very fast?!) no thank you. The weather in Charleston can be very unpredictable, so these shoes would be a pain if rained. I might have considered keeping them if I still worked in an office and kept shoes to wear only indoors at work, but I don't...so I returned them.

Piko tees - Even though I received a lot sweet comments about these tees on my post last week, I just couldn't keep them. They were giant and I felt like I was wearing a tent. I might regret this decision in a few months when I actually need to wear a tent but for now I'm happy they are out of my closet.

Do you have any favorite shopping hits?

Good Luck!

(wedding) weekend good things.

H and I spent the past weekend in Fredericksburg, Virginia for my cousin Kacie's wedding. It was my first time in Virginia and the historic town was sooo charming. It is full of cute little shops all decorated for the upcoming holidays.
The wedding was a Cinderella theme -- with little gold glitter pumpkins, ribbon wands, Disney music played by a string quartet, and bridesmaids in blue dresses. All the hard work my aunt and cousin put into planning the wedding paid off -- it was perfect. Our family had a blast dancing to oldies and 80's music and I had my fill of white AND chocolate wedding cake. The bride and groom surprised guests with two characterture artists and guests got to have their portraits drawn (they included a little bump in my cartoon!)
The weekend went by wayyy too fast. I had so much fun seeing my little "sister" get married and my family, I miss everyone already!
How was your weekend?

bumpdate: 5 months.

How far along: Yesterday I reached the 21-week mark -- I'm halfway through my pregnancy -- so exciting/crazy!

Size of the baby: According to my BabyCenter My Pregnancy app, Baby M is the length of a carrot and approx. 3/4 lb.

Gender: We're having a little girl :) bring on the pink and gold!

How do you feel? Awesome! This pregnancy has been really wonderful so far. I was tired in the beginning but I have my energy back and I'm feeling great. No nausea, no food aversions, or acid reflux...I just hope it continues.

Cravings: Extra sharp cheddar cheese, apples, chicken tikka masala with garlic naan, pumpkin pie, and funfetti cupcakes.

Miss anything? Turkey lunch meat, feta, and bleu cheese!! I've already decided I want a ginormous sandwich from Queen Street Grocery after I deliver. I also really miss sleeping on my back.

General mood: Happy, excited, hungry :)

Fears: At my level 2 ultrasound appointment my doctor told me that my placenta is near my cervix and I might have placenta previa. My placenta should move up in the next few months with the baby but if it doesn't I'll have to have a C-section which freaks me out. I'm trying not to worry about it since there really isn't anything I can do but wait and see what happens.

Sleep: I sleep pretty well thanks to my fortress of pillows -- I have a bump nest pregnancy pillow and it's a lifesaver.

Workouts: I try to workout at least 4-5 times a week, that includes hour long walks around our neighborhood or trips to the gym: yoga, squats, free weights and foam roller exercises. I also really like these 10-minute prenatal workouts from popsugar: armslower body, and a prenatal workout from Heidi Klum's trainer.

Things I am looking forward to: My cousin's wedding is this weekend in Fredericksburg, Virginia -- I can't wait to see my family and eat some wedding cake (whoohoo bridesmaid with a bump!)

Best moment this month: Finally feeling the baby move and seeing her at our level 2 ultrasound. Our technician said she was measuring perfectly and everything looked great.

Shout out to my baby daddy: Thank you H for playing photographer and getting a bump photo of me...and for running to rite aid for cookie dough ice cream -- you're the best!

Maternity clothes: For the most part I am still in normal clothes but they are getting pretty snug. When it's warm I wear my regular shorts with the old rubber band trick. I've bought a few flowy shirts (I recently bought this one in a size up) and I am loving my leggings.

Currently in my shopping cart: Baby clothes! Gap has a ton of cute stuff (like this dress and leggings) and this sweater for me. I guess I know how I'll be spending my reward money this month :)

our baby shower.

When H and I were in Illinois the other week we got together with some family and close friends for our baby shower. We had lunch (burgers!) and cupcakes, played games, and baby M was spoiled with some seriously adorable gifts. It was perfect. A HUGE thank you to my mom and sister-in-law for planning such a wonderful party.
I wore a flowy non-maternity dress and cardigan (both on sale) with my Kendra Scott Necklace and booties. I was super comfortable and I know this outfit will be on heavy rotation this fall and winter.

There were so many cute decor details -- Minted generously supplied the party decorations (we used a personalized bunting banner, circle garland, cupcake toppers, and table confetti from the "Oh Boy" line). Everyone loved the decor, especially the cupcake toppers and "bonjour bebe" bunting banner. Our family friend Amy put together beautiful flower arrangements -- complete with elephant ribbons (she was our florist for our wedding too). And my sister-in-law found the cutest elephant sugar cookies (almost too cute to eat!).
My favorite part of the shower was when we revealed the gender of the baby with special carrot cake and salted caramel cupcakes with mystery blue or pink icing inside. My grandmas took a bite out of their cupcakes first and they saw pink icing! My grandma on my mom's side was shocked and her face was priceless -- she was convinced we were having a boy :) Everyone was so happy we're having a baby girl! Thank you again to my family and friends for a wonderful baby shower! Baby M is lucky to have so many special people in her life :)

Charleston ghosts, graveyards, and brunch.

It cooled down in Charleston this weekend to the lower 50's which was a refreshing change from non-stop upper 80's. On Friday night I was thrilled we got a few (adorable) trick-or-treaters before we went out for our Ghost and Graveyard tour. The tour was kind of corny but it was interesting to learn a little bit about one of the city's oldest graveyards. On Saturday it rained most of the day, so we ran some errands and snuggled in for the night with Ben & Jerry's and a few episodes of House of Cards (Frank Underwood you seriously freak me out!)
On Sunday I met up with Caitlyn and Ally at Poogan's Porch for Brunch. I ordered the cinnamon french toast and sausage. It was SO good and I love that they serve complimentary biscuits (my favorite!) I can't wait to go back and try the Pimento grilled cheese. Later that afternoon H and I returned to some of the spots we visited on our Ghosts and Graveyard tour -- including Charleston's oldest graveyard:

The Circular Church Graveyard (located at 150 Meeting Street) was established in 1681 and has over 500 gravestones dating back to 1695. The majority of the burials are for people born before 1880. It's amazing that most of gravestones are still legible -- according to our tour guide many of the headstones are made from slate, which is extremely durable. The inscriptions on the slate headstones have also survived over the years because Charleston doesn't suffer from constant severe icy weather.
A church graveyard might not be at the top of everyone's tourist to-do list in Charleston, but it's worth seeing as a reminder of Charleston's historic past.
