weekend donuts.

Full Disclaimer: I participated in an Influencer Activation on behalf of Influence Central for Dunkin’ Brands. I received a promotional item to thank me for my participation. Thank you for supporting brands that support Cornflake Dreams.

When H and I moved in with each other, our apartment in Chicago was across the street from a Dunkin' Donuts. I have wonderful memories of H surprising me with Double Chocolate Donuts on the weekend (yep, I'll admit I'm a little spoiled). We stayed at that first apartment for almost a year before we bought our condo. Our new place was only a few blocks away, so we walked together to Dunkin' Donuts and continued to indulge in our favorite weekend treat. It's also one of H's favorite places to get his coffee fix.
Fast forward to this past summer -- we moved across the country to Charleston, SC. After we finished unpacking, I started to feel a little homesick. We walked around our new neighborhood and I was thrilled to find a Dunkin' Donuts downtown less than a mile from our place. It was comforting to find a little piece of home in our new city.
If you're a Dunkin' Donuts fan too, consider signing up for DD Perks, a loyalty program. I already signed up for DD Perks and it was super easy! I can't wait to treat myself to more Double Chocolate Donuts, and rack up some points to surprise H with his favorite coffee. I'm also excited to try a Croissant Donut and Salted Caramel Hot Chocolate this winter!

My 2014 New Years resolution was to take the time to say thank you. Coincidentally I have a lot of really wonderful things to be thankful for this year:

I am thankful for a healthy and happy pregnancy -- at 24 weeks I feel fantastic. I love seeing my bump grow and feeling little kicks throughout the day. We love you already Violet!

I am thankful for my supportive husband, who inspires me to be a better person and makes me laugh everyday. H -- you are going to be an amazing bābā.

I am thankful for my friends and family who keep in touch with weekly emails, texts, and phone calls. They are always there to support me (and calm me down when I worry about crazy baby things).

I am thankful we get to live in Charleston, South Carolina. It's a beautiful city with friendly people and great food.

and finally... I am thankful for pumpkin pie :)

Have a very Happy Thanksgiving friends!

Charleston Culinary Tour / exploring upper king street.

Full Disclosure: I received a complimentary pass from Charleston Culinary Tours to facilitate this review. As always, all thoughts and opinions are my own. Thank you for supporting brands that support Cornflake Dreams.

Last Saturday H and I went on another culinary tour. We booked our tickets through Charleston Culinary Tours and decided on the Upper King Street Culinary Tour. We live downtown but we don't visit Upper King Street nearly enough -- there sooo many great restaurants and shops in this area.

Our group stopped at four different restaurants all along Upper King Street and tried unique dishes at each place. And along the way our tour guide shared some history about the growth and changes in this part of Charleston.

Our first stop was HoM where we sampled: Calamari with parmesan goat cheese; Dixie Flatbread with pimento cheese, pork confit, caramelized onions, maple bacon greens (my favorite dish of the day); and a Green Gobble'n Turkey Burger with melted leeks & spinach, brie, green goddess aioli, green apple. HoM is on my restaurant wish list, so I'm glad it was included in the tour. I want to go back and try a beef burger and the Dixie Flatbread again.

Next up: Prohibition, they have award winning drinks and delicious food. We sampled the Chorizo Paella with peppers, cilantro and hollandaise sauce; and the Duck Confit Quesadillas with smoked gouda & roasted tomato, finished with sambal aioli & black bean corn salsa. I've never had duck before but apparently I'm a fan! The quesadillas was crispy and full of flavor -- I would order these again.

39 Rue De Jean - Mussels in garlic and herb broth; Pommes Frites (the fries were ahhhhmazing -- especially when you dip them into the garlic and herb broth); and Vegetable Ratatouille.

Our last stop was Paolo's Gelato where I got an itty bitty limone gelato cone, which was the perfect dessert after everything else we ate.

I absolutely recommend this tour, the food was excellent, and even my hungry husband was satisfied with the portions. It's a wonderful way to discover new restaurants and try a variety of food. I'd love to try the Chef's Showcase at The Farmer's Market Culinary Tour before the baby arrives ;)

five on friday.

Happy Friday and helloooo weekend! I'm linking up with Christina, April, Natasha, and Darci today:
ONE: I can't get enough hummus these days -- especially the pine nut flavor from Harris Teeter. I really want to make avocado, roasted red pepper, and cilantro jalapeno hummus, (this 13 Different Ways to Make Hummus chart is fun too!) What are your favorite ingredients to mix into hummus?
TWO: I was included in Lovely Life Styling's Blog Tour list. Lindsay is super sweet and expecting her first baby any day! Now it's my time to nominate three more of my favorite bloggers. I'm going with my blogger-friends-turned-IRL-Charleston-friends: Shelby from Recent Somethings, Ally from Life as I know it, and Caitlyn from Home Sweet Ruby.
THREE: I'm seeing Hunger Games: Mockingjay part 1 tonight -- that's right three movies in less than three months! Just trying to do all those things that I know will be difficult to do after the baby arrives.
FOUR: We're going on another culinary tour this weekend! This time we are exploring upper King street and I really hope we visit Sugar Bakeshop. #preppingforThanksgiving
FIVE: There's a few days left to enter the Mama Mio Giveaway -- enter for yourself or for a friend!

Have a great weekend!

a nursery for baby cornflake.

I hit the 23-week mark yesterday and I think the nesting thing finally kicked in. I vacuumed the whole house (including the couch and fridge -- I know, I'm a weirdo), changed the sheets, and reorganized the baby's clothes (again) by size. Sooo I'm sure you can imagine that it makes my nesting/control-freak-self sad that I can't actually decorate a nursery before the baby gets here. Baby M will be taking over our living room until we move out of our rental -- which is about 3+ months after the baby arrives. But that doesn't mean I can't start planning or shopping...
I want our nursery to be a warm and inviting room, with white furniture, grey accents, and pops of pink. I hope it all comes together in the end and I have already stocked up on a few things:

The modern Honest 4-in-1 Convertible Crib and our vintage changing table (my great-grandmother's refinished dresser) will be the main pieces of furniture in the nursery. I want to keep things neutral for the bedding with a mix of gray sheets (I love the super soft Mini Dot and Grey Elephant patterns). And I couldn't resist the sweet Pink Swan pattern sheets!

For wall decor I bought a few prints on Etsy over a year ago (yeeep...wishful thinking), thankfully I still love the illustrations - Jungle Nursery Alphabet art printA Jolly Read PrintRoyal Elephant art print -- from the Trafalgar's Square shop (they are currently having a sale -- receive 25% off orders over $20 with code FALL25 at checkout). I recently purchased a pretty Rifle Botanicals Garland for a personalized accent.

My mom has generously offered to buy us our rocker and I have my eye on the Toby Modern Upholstered Glider and Ottoman (both in Talbot Cement Fabric). I saw the glider when I was in Chicago and it is gorgeous!

Nursery Wish List:
I think a colorful rug would tie the whole room together. I love this Pakistani Pink and Black Wool Rug, but I'd actually love to get a pink Persian rug to celebrate her Persian-German-Irish-Hungarian culture.

I want to frame all of the prints in simple White Gallery Frames and add a Map print to the room to inspire Baby M to travel :) You can't beat the $5 price tag of this one.

For some finishing touches I want a few Nesting Floor Baskets for easy toy and blanket storage, a pretty Throw Pillow for the glider, and one more set of gray patterned sheets.

my christmas wish list.

Can you believe Thanksgiving is next week?! I am sooo behind on my holiday shopping this year... ugh. I've rounded up a few $50 and under gift picks on Pinterest but I need to get moving. Til then I am linking up with AprilEliseKatie, and Zelle and sharing a Few of My Favorite Things:

-"I don't really need any more jewelry," (said no one ever).... I am loving the star details on this Elizabeth and James bracelet

-I use Urban Decay eyeshadow almost every day, so it'd be fun to experiment with more colors from the Urban Decay Naked3 Palate

-A girl can't have too many Zooey Deschanel classic pj's

-Now that I live somewhere that isn't crazy cold, I'd love a pair of super soft Cashmere Gloves and cozy slippers (this less expensive pair is cute too).

-I love my new floral iphone cover but a girl needs options... this scallops iPhone 5c case is cute too!

and It's totally normal to put something for your baby on your christmas wish list...right? :) ok good because I can totally picture our little girl running around in these rufflebutt bloomers. (haha isn't that the perfect name?!) And I'd love to add these dreamy star print crib sheets and wool felt night sky mobile to her nursery.

What's on your Christmas wish list?

Mama Mio Skincare Review + Giveaway.

Full Disclosure: I was provided with products from Mama Mio to review. As always, all thoughts and opinions are my own. Thank you for supporting brands that support Cornflake Dreams.

I'm excited to introduce to you Mama Mio, the pregnancy experts on fit skin. When I found out I was pregnant I knew it was important for me to start taking better care of my skin. I came across a number of stretch creams before I found Mama Mio. I happy to discover that Mama Mio's products are safe to use during pregnancy and nursing and specifically designed to address pregnant skin concerns.

The first Mama Mio product I ever tried was the Tummy Rub Butter. I'm obsessed. I use the super thick lotion every night on my stomach, hips, and boobs. It smells great and the Shea Butter base leaves my skin super hydrated. It works great on dry hands too :)

Mama Mio generously sent over a few other products for me to try: the Gorgeous Glow Facial Swipes -- these are super convenient for travel (or if you're a lazy girl like me and prefer to wash your face every day with them!) And Your Pregnancy Essentials Kit which includes: The Tummy Rub Butter --
Award-winning stretch mark protection and my personal favorite. Gorgeous Glow -- Balancing Facial Wash. Pregnancy Boob Tube -- Bust Protection Cream to stop sagging. Lucky Legs -- A mini spa treatment to relieve swollen legs and feet
. I'm sure this will come in handy in my third trimester. The Pregnancy Essentials Kit is award winning and the perfect size for travel!

Mama Mio is treating one lucky reader to the Gorgeous Glow Facial Swipes AND Your Pregnancy Essentials Kit. Together the pair makes a great gift for a mama-to-be (or treat yo self and keep them for an at home spa day!) Please enter below using the Rafflecopter widget. One winner will be announced on Tuesday, November 25. Good Luck!

weekend good things.

Happy Monday! I had a great weekend and it started with a celebration, my younger brother's wife had their baby on Friday! She is adorable and I am so happy for them.

Friday night H and I went to the gym and then watched a few episodes of House of Cards (#partyanimals). The next day we made it to the gym again (whoohoo!), ran some errands, and then lounged around for the rest of the afternoon. Later that night we met up with friends (Caitlyn, Ally, Shelby and their husbands) at EVO for some wood-fired Neapolitan pizza AND my first slice of pumpkin pie this year (sooo good!) The pizza was pretty tasty-- I loved all of the unique and fresh ingredients (even the huge hunks of roasted garlic).

It was rainy in Charleston on Sunday, so I caught up on some magazines and got organized with my new May Designs meal planner notebook (thank you Caroline!!). H and I went shopping for some Christmas gifts. I treated myself to a mini spa treatment with some Mama Mio products (more on that tomorrow + a giveaway). I spent the rest of the night baking date-nut bread and we watched Batman (the original one from the 90's) it was pretty hilarious and cheesier than I remembered :)

How was your weekend?

five on friday.

Happy Friday! I'm linking up with ChristinaAprilNatasha, and Darci today for Five on Friday, so let's get to it!
ONE: This weekend we're going out EVO pizza with some friends. It's on my restaurant wish list and I'm excited to see if it lives up to the hype.
images via + via
TWO: I really liked this article about money + happiness. It makes me want to save money in the future for more trips and experiences instead of more things.

THREE: We cut our cable a few weeks (there were a ton of channels we weren't watching and I needed to break my Bravo addiction). Well it hasn't been too bad, especially with the addition of Hulu. But we tried two antennas and they were both terrible -- we could only got 2 local channels and the connection was pretty shaky. So we crawled back to comcast (uggh) for another cable box. We went with the super basic package so we're still saving about 1/2 from our orginal our cable bill. I'm just happy I can watch the morning news again AND I'll have PBS for the return of Downton Abbey.

FOUR: There are less than TWO weeks until Thanksgiving! It's one of my favorite holidays and I'm craving pumpkin pie, turkey, and mashed potatoes like crazy. We're traveling to Chicago for the holiday and I want to bring something Southern for dinner. I'm thinking Pimento Cheese + Callie's Buttermilk Biscuits (you can buy biscuit mix online or in the Charleston store). Do you have any favorite sides or desserts that are easy to travel with?
FIVE: There's a few days left to enter the Gerard Yosca giveaway. Enter HERE to win a gorgeous handmade necklace and bracelet!

Have a great weekend!

home goods: Kalyana Textiles.

Full Disclosure: I received complimentary items from Kalyana Textiles to review. As always, all thoughts and opinions are my own. Thank you for supporting brands that support Cornflake Dreams.

Kalyana Textiles makes beautiful Indian block print quilts, cushions & table linens in a range of vibrant, coastal-inspired colors. Their traditional designs have a touch of modern style. All of Kalyana Textiles' products are handcrafted by artisans in Rajasthan, India using the ancient tradition of block printing. They also offer a number of kantha quilts, which are screen printed by hand and then sewn together with a traditional type of running stitch called "kantha." All products are printed on 100% cotton fabric with eco-friendly Azo free dyes. I love their collection of cushions which comes in a variety of blue and white patterns -- my favorite color combination!Aparna, the owner of Kalyana Textiles was sweet enough to send over two Leela Cushions in Indigo for me to review. The 20" x 20" cushions add the perfect pop of color and pattern to our mostly neutral master bedroom. The Leela cushion has a pretty hand-blocked Persian inspired pattern, something I thought H would appreciate. I love the rich indigo color and delicate curvy details. I also think the cushions would look great in the living room mixed in with our other navy throw pillows.

shopping hits and misses.

It's been a few months since my last shopping hits and misses post, so I thought I would update you on a few of my favorite recent purchases (and the things that didn't work out).
hits: GiGi New York Taylor Tote Bag in Saddle - I splurged with this bag and I plan on using it as one of my diaper bags (I'll also use my Lo & Son's OMG bag). I absolutely love this tote, it's super roomy and fully lined, which will be helpful for those inevitable bottle spills. The tote was worth the investment for me because I know it's something I'll love long after it's used as a diaper bag. When I was home, my mom surprised me with small and large Truffle Clarity Pouches (she's so hip!). The pouches will help keep things inside my diaper bag organized.

I also bought a few maternity pieces: a 3/4 sleeve black and white striped scoop-neck top and a long white tank top both from ASOS. They are pretty basic, so I can wear them during pregnancy and a few months after delivery.
baby hits: I received quite a few 0-3 month onesies for baby M so I think we're set on that age range. So lately I've been shopping for summer outfits in the 3-6 month range and I found a ton of cute things (all on sale, since it's out of season). Here are my favorites: striped bubble shorts (in coral and purple) / baby blue ikat onesie anchor smocked dress / dot flutter dress (my favorite!). And a few pants for baby's first winter: jersey heather pants (in solid gray and gray stripe) / ruffled polka dot leggings.

and now the misses:
Yosi Samra leopard ballet flats - These ballet flats have been on my wish list for months, so when ShopBop had their family and friends sale I didn't hesitate to purchase them. I received the shoes a few days later (hooray for fast, free shipping) but right after I opened the box I saw a care instructions card -- it said, "We recommend you take special care to maintain the beauty of this product by avoiding contact with water (including rain), grease, lotions, etc. Keep away from heat or direct sunlight, as prolonged exposure can slightly alter color. Natural oils from your feet may cause color to rub off." Soooo basically these are some really adorable shoes that you CAN'T actually wear outdoor (or even put on your feet because they will wear very fast?!) no thank you. The weather in Charleston can be very unpredictable, so these shoes would be a pain if rained. I might have considered keeping them if I still worked in an office and kept shoes to wear only indoors at work, but I don't...so I returned them.

Piko tees - Even though I received a lot sweet comments about these tees on my post last week, I just couldn't keep them. They were giant and I felt like I was wearing a tent. I might regret this decision in a few months when I actually need to wear a tent but for now I'm happy they are out of my closet.

Do you have any favorite shopping hits?

p.s. did you enter the Gerard Yosca Jewelry giveaway?

(wedding) weekend good things.

H and I spent the past weekend in Fredericksburg, Virginia for my cousin Kacie's wedding. It was my first time in Virginia and the historic town was sooo charming. It is full of cute little shops all decorated for the upcoming holidays.
The wedding was a Cinderella theme -- with little gold glitter pumpkins, ribbon wands, Disney music played by a string quartet, and bridesmaids in blue dresses. All the hard work my aunt and cousin put into planning the wedding paid off -- it was perfect. Our family had a blast dancing to oldies and 80's music and I had my fill of white AND chocolate wedding cake. The bride and groom surprised guests with two characterture artists and guests got to have their portraits drawn (they included a little bump in my cartoon!)
The weekend went by wayyy too fast. I had so much fun seeing my little "sister" get married and my family, I miss everyone already!
How was your weekend?

five on friday

Happy Friday! Thank you for all of your sweet comments on my baby shower and bumpdate posts! You guys are the best :) Anyhoo I'm linking up with ChristinaAprilNatasha, and Darci today for Five on Friday.
ONE: We're off to Fredericksburg, Virginia this weekend for my cousin Kacie's wedding (she's the one on the left above). Follow along on instagram if you want to see my bump in a bridesmaid dress ;)
I'm loving these Rifle Paper Co. covers: rosa - paris map - spanish rose - botanical rose - swan lake
TWO: I finally upgraded my broke-down iPhone (I wasn't able to lock it for months). I went with a white iPhone 5 since the upgrade only cost me $13 (whoohoo!). Since I saved on the actual phone, I spent a little more on a new case (totally worth it since I drop my phone all the time).
THREE: I'm a little late to the Piko shirt craze but I finally ordered a few. The tees are made out of 95% bamboo fabric and they are super soft. I ordered the smallest size available and it's really flowy (check out the third pic above). I'm still deciding if I am going to keep them or not. I'm sure I'll appreciate the tees in a few months when my bump gets bigger and after the baby arrive. I guess I'm just not used to wearing something that flowy. Are you a fan of Piko shirts?
FOUR: I've noticed I am getting some lovely little laugh lines. I'm trying to stay positive about the whole aging gracefully thing but I don't think it hurts to start using some anti-wrinkle products. I just ordered this serumdo you have any other favorites?

FIVE: H and I saw St. Vincent yesterday and I loved it. It made me cry like a baby (like ugly cry... I'm blaming this one on baby hormones!) Anyhoo it was a really entertaining story and Bill Murray was great AND it has the hilarious cop from Bridesmaids. So see it or make sure you add it to your future Netflix list!

Have a wonderful weekend!

bumpdate: 5 months.

How far along: Yesterday I reached the 21-week mark -- I'm halfway through my pregnancy -- so exciting/crazy!

Size of the baby: According to my BabyCenter My Pregnancy app, Baby M is the length of a carrot and approx. 3/4 lb.

Gender: We're having a little girl :) bring on the pink and gold!

How do you feel? Awesome! This pregnancy has been really wonderful so far. I was tired in the beginning but I have my energy back and I'm feeling great. No nausea, no food aversions, or acid reflux...I just hope it continues.

Cravings: Extra sharp cheddar cheese, apples, chicken tikka masala with garlic naan, pumpkin pie, and funfetti cupcakes.

Miss anything? Turkey lunch meat, feta, and bleu cheese!! I've already decided I want a ginormous sandwich from Queen Street Grocery after I deliver. I also really miss sleeping on my back.

General mood: Happy, excited, hungry :)

Fears: At my level 2 ultrasound appointment my doctor told me that my placenta is near my cervix and I might have placenta previa. My placenta should move up in the next few months with the baby but if it doesn't I'll have to have a C-section which freaks me out. I'm trying not to worry about it since there really isn't anything I can do but wait and see what happens.

Sleep: I sleep pretty well thanks to my fortress of pillows -- I have a bump nest pregnancy pillow and it's a lifesaver.

Workouts: I try to workout at least 4-5 times a week, that includes hour long walks around our neighborhood or trips to the gym: yoga, squats, free weights and foam roller exercises. I also really like these 10-minute prenatal workouts from popsugar: armslower body, and a prenatal workout from Heidi Klum's trainer.

Things I am looking forward to: My cousin's wedding is this weekend in Fredericksburg, Virginia -- I can't wait to see my family and eat some wedding cake (whoohoo bridesmaid with a bump!)

Best moment this month: Finally feeling the baby move and seeing her at our level 2 ultrasound. Our technician said she was measuring perfectly and everything looked great.

Shout out to my baby daddy: Thank you H for playing photographer and getting a bump photo of me...and for running to rite aid for cookie dough ice cream -- you're the best!

Maternity clothes: For the most part I am still in normal clothes but they are getting pretty snug. When it's warm I wear my regular shorts with the old rubber band trick. I've bought a few flowy shirts (I recently bought this one in a size up) and I am loving my leggings.

Currently in my shopping cart: Baby clothes! Gap has a ton of cute stuff (like this dress and leggings) and this sweater for me. I guess I know how I'll be spending my reward money this month :)
