cornflake dreams.: and baby makes three.

10.09.2014

and baby makes three.

that's right, I've been keeping a little secret -- I'm pregnant!!! :) Here is the full story: h and I have been trying to start a family for quite a while. We tried to get pregnant before I was diagnosed with Crohn's last year and we couldn't. In retrospect it was probably for the best, since it was important for me to be healthy before adding a baby to the mix.

A few months after I started feeling better we started trying again...and nada. We went through quite a few negative pregnancy tests and we were both getting a little discouraged. So, we decided to focus on our move to South Carolina and get back to it once we settled into our new place. I went off to the Bahamas for my brother's wedding and a week after I returned (two days before our two year anniversary) we bought a pregnancy test just to check. I wasn't really expecting anything to happen (I even bought cookie dough ice cream to curb my disappointment). I took the test and was SHOCKED to see a positive test! I ran out into the living room and told h -- he didn't believe me and checked for himself. I took another test and then we jumped around and hugged each other like maniacs. We were both thrilled - we called our parents to share the happy news and celebrated with some ice cream. It was the perfect wedding anniversary present :)
{we bought the blue and white stripe elephant during our honeymoon in Prague -- it's exciting to finally take him out of storage!}
Now I am 17-weeks along and into my second trimester. My pregnancy has been really wonderful so far -- I was tired for a few weeks and my boobs were sore, but I haven't had any morning sickness or food aversions. That's not to say these past few months have been totally stress-free. Being pregnant for the first time is pretty overwhelming and I find myself worrying about everything. The first few weeks I was nervous that I would have a miscarriage, and later I was anxious about genetic testing (baby M is just fine). Everything is new and you can't control most of it. So I have resolved to focus on the positives and the things that I can control (baby names and nursery decor).

You might be wondering how pregnancy will change this blog -- I plan on doing monthly Bumpdates with updates on my pregnancy. And I'm sure I'll occasionally post about maternity and baby products that I love -- but it's not going to be ALL-baby/pregnancy all the time. Just let me know if there is anything you would like to see that is pregnancy or baby related and I'll see what I can do!

Have any advice for the second trimester of pregnancy?
-xo-

  22. Congrats! Such fun news! We just had our first baby two weeks ago, and while it was stressful in the beginning (sick first trimester and then stress about things you can't control) it was so much fun to research baby nurseries and gear. Plus, while blogs and Pinterest can be a bit overwhelming, they provide so much creativity!

  38. Awe Congratulations. Enjoy every minute of it (even when you hit the point that you're getting tired of being pregnant) b/c you'll miss the feeling of having your baby in your belly. I have 2 amazing kids and I still look at them with wonder, that my husband and I created them and I was the luckiest because I got to hold them in my belly. My favorite pregnancy/baby quote is: No one will ever know the strength of my love for you, after all, you're the only one who knows what my heart sounds like from inside.
    Congratulations again!

  39. Congratulations!! How exciting :) My best advice... take lots of pictures of yourself because the rest of your pregnancy will fly by, take naps, be nice to yourself and squeeze in as many fun things with your hubby as possible - movie dates, dinner dates, go out for dessert, meet up with friends, go to sporting events and enjoy each other.

  49. Ok. so I thought about you the other day and it was really strange because thoughts about a baby popped into my mind and I was thinking "gosh, the move has been so wonderful for you guys and now would be a perfect time if you DID get pregnant." haha SO SO SO HAPPY FOR YOU! Now your "secret boards" on Pinterest can be public :) I would be TOTALLY fine if you posted more baby things - like decor and personal updates and cute outfits etc. My advice is to be as stress free as possible. Enjoy the small moments. Enjoy being pampered and babied by your hubby because I'm sure he'll always be checking up on you :) And continue to exercise daily (like 20-30 minute walks for example) because I swear it helped so much with my labor. Before you know it, bebe will be here. The 2nd tri is always the best! Congrats again love!

  55. Congrats again! We found out right around our wedding anniversary too - isn't that extra special? It really can be overwhelming to do this for the first time, but I tried to remember that our bodies were built for growing babies, so they're just going to do their thing and it'll be great... Also I had a (non-scientific) theory that if I was really stressed/anxious during pregnancy the baby would be able to tell and would be an anxious person, so that helped me relax (and then he turned out to be easygoing!). One great way to relax was to use pregnancy as an excuse to try new restaurants/flavors because you can help baby learn to like them already (actually scientific). Your shifting focus to the things you CAN control is really smart too. Also: my first trimester was similarly fairly easy, and from my experience that meant that the second trimester was GREAT. Any 1st trimester tiredness pretty much went away. I felt almost normal but then got the added fun stuff of starting to show, starting to feel the baby kick, etc. So enjoy!!

  61. Congrats!! I can't believe I'm just seeing this now! I have loved being pregnant! Enjoy your 2nd trimester. It was definitely my favortie. Now that I'm in the 3rd, I'm starting to feel very tired and run down due to lack of sleep. Get as much rest as possible! And buying baby clothes is really fun :)
