summer reading list.

I have a 14-hour car ride to Charleston next week and a beach vacation the following week, so I need to fill up my kindle with some new books. I just finished reading, What Alice Forgot and it was pretty good (I liked it more than The Husband's Secret by the same author). Now I am looking forward to reading these picks:
1. The Hundred Foot Journey by Richard Morais - Indian food in Paris?! I'm sold.
2. One More Thing by B.J. Novak - This was on my last reading list but I haven't gotten to it yet.
3. Outlander by Diana Gabaldon - this was highly recommended by Tiffany of Dancing Branflakes and my mom, so I am pretty much obligated to read it!
4. Let's Pretend This Never Happened by Jenny Lawson - another recommendation from friends.
5. One Plus One by Jojo Moyes (my favorite!) I've already pre-ordered this book, I'll get it just in time for my beach vacation (whoohoo!).

And here is a rundown of the books I have read so far this year-- ranked from BEST to meh not so good:

1. Where'd You Go Bernadette by Maria Semple
2. Me Before You by Jojo Moyes
3. The Last Love Letter to Your Lover by Jojo Moyes
4. The Girl You Left Behind by Jojo Moyes
5. The Lowland by Jhumpa Lahiri
6. What Alice Forgot by Liane Moriarty
7. The Husband's Secret by Liane Moriarty
8. Labor Day by Joyce Maynard
9. Reconstructing Amelia by Kimberly McCreight
10. If I Stay by Gayle Forman

What is on your summer reading list?

  1. I have heard "Let's Pretend This Never Happened" is hilarious! I have it downloaded for my Kindle, but have not read it yet. I'm happy to see "Where'd You Go Bernadette" at the top of you list because I have it sitting on my nightstand right now! I need to start it asap. If you haven't read Chelsea Handler, her books are hilarious, as are White Girl Problems and Psycho.

  3. Did you know If I Stay is being made into a movie? I had no idea til I was at a theater watching previews the other day. I was NOT a fan of Jenny Lawson's book but know I am in the minority- will be interested to see what you think!

  8. I love hearing about what other bloggers are reading! I'm trying to read at least one book per month this year. This month I'm reading The One and Only by Emily Giffen. I've read The Husbands Secret, Where are you Bernadette, and Reconstructing Amelia as well! Looks like I need to read "What Alice Forgot"!

    Thanks for the recommendations!

  11. Oh can't wait to get one of these to read this summer...and thanks for the rundown of those you liked/disliked so I know not to bother with them. It's such a bummer when you're reading one that's not good...but you keep reading thinking it will get better and it doesn't. :)

  19. I really want to see the Hundred Foot Journey movie. I'm reading the book Prodigal Summer right now. It was on the Buzzfeed list of books that will change your life, though I don't feel like it has changed my life yet. Hopefully it gets better!

  22. Ooh, I haven't read any of these yet - I admit my reading list is already WAY too long, but I enjoyed Me Before You, so I might check out some other ones by that author... And I absolutely loved Where'd You Go, Bernadette - and liked What Alice Forgot quite a bit more than I expected to. Really interesting to think about the premise and who I'll be in 10 years compared to who I am now (and whether I'd recognize that person if I met her then!). Next up for me is The Rosie Project.

  25. My book club just finished "If I Stay" so that we can go watch the movie together. None of us were crazy about the book, but we're going to read the sequel "Where She Went" anyway b/c I hate to leave a series unfinished. I loved Jenny Lawson's memoir, mainly b/c she cusses like a sailor (Sound familiar?) :) Can't wait to hear what you think of B.J. Novak's novel. It's at the top of my 'Want To Read' list.

Enjoy your last weekend in Chicago and have a safe trip to your new home!!!
