cornflake dreams.: a bed fit for a king (and queen).

a bed fit for a king (and queen).

H and I have decided that we want to upgrade to king size bed (mostly because I sprawl out during the night, leaving him close to the edge -- sorry, babe!). I am excited to buy a new mattress (we're thinking memory foam) but have no idea what brand to buy -- any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. A larger mattress means we'll also have to buy a new headboard or bed-frame, comforter, duvet cover and sheets! It's a lot to consider all at once, so I thought I would start with the duvet cover. I want to keep the room simple and avoid loud bright patterns. I found seven duvet covers that I think will create a relaxing and peaceful space:
grand embroidered black stripe cover / JR by john robshaw cosmos gray duvet / Dwell Studio modern border admiral duvet cover  (also in smoke gray) / hudson park Italian percale double-stripe duvet / sferra connery circles duvet / natalie embroidered quilt

Which one is your favorite?
Do you have a mattress brand you recommend?

  1. I remember doing a lot of research on mattresses when we went to a king sized bed and a lot of the data/info/research came up that latex is better than memory foam. Just something to consider - you can get organic latex, it is supposedly cooler at night and doesn't off-gas like MF. I say "supposedly" because we ended up getting a regular mattress given to us so I never got to experience it...

I will say to make sure you measure before you buy a new duvet - not all king duvets are sized the same, and a standard "king" will actually not cover the sides of a lot of king mattresses. Which is super annoying. I say THAT from experience :-)

  2. One of the lines that I represent and help get into hotels is Serta and I love them! They have tons of great options and it’s what I’ve slept on for years. I say make a trip to a mattress store and test them out! After the wedding a king bed is one of the first things we’re purchasing. I can’t wait to have that much room!

  9. My husband and I want to upgrade to a king. He's 6'2" and just needs more space to spread out. Plus our cat loves to hog the bed and we're suckers and will placate her. :) -Katie

  10. We upgraded to a Cal King in February and it was the best decision EVER!! We went with a Serta Beautyrest and love it. The one thing to be careful about with memory foam is it tends to retain it's heat. So make sure to ask if the technology is there to let the mattress "breath". Nothing worse than a sweaty sleeper!

  11. I actually have something very similar to the white comforter and I LOVE it! It's so classy, and it gives you lots of options when it comes to accent colors!

  12. I really like the last tufted white one. So crisp and clean looking. I work for a physical and massage therapist and we see many folks that want to know which mattress to buy. While there are definitely pillows that are above the cut, each mattress is so different. You and the hubs need to go lay on a whole bunch of them and pick the one that y'all like the best!
