loving lately.

Yesterday I was downtown at a conference right next to Michigan Ave (I normally work in the loop which full of busy attorneys and bankers and doesn't have a ton of stores). I took advantage of my lunch hour and did a little power-shopping. I visited Burberry (sigh), tried on a few beautiful trenches and then gracefully ran out the door before I made an expensive decision. Afterwards I visited a few other stores in my budget....

I found this reversible v-neck racerback camis (at Express --shocker right?!) I want to stock up on these for summer - they have pretty solid colors and black and white stripes.

I also love this short sleeve pleated keyhole blouse - it would be great for work AND weekends with jeans. I like it in royal blue and white.

I am stalking this hooded trench from ZARA... they need to restock it in my size. It's the non-double-breasted "trench" coat I have been looking for (and it has a hood!)

I am still in love with my eberjey pj's -- and I want to the short version this summer.

I felt up this chenille-knit sherpa blanket over the weekend. It was sooooo soft, H and I went back for a second grope! Defiantly adding it to my birthday wish list (too soon?!)

And in case you missed it - I have a new guest post up on So about what I said...

spring reading list.

A new season is here...time to update to my reading list:

Since my last list (here) -- I read Labor Day and two books by JoJo Moyes: Me Before You and The Girl You Left Behind. I think I would have liked Labor Day more if I hadn't seen the movie trailer which reveals most of the story. But I really loved the Moyes books and I would absolutely recommend them. I didn't realize that Moyes is considered a 'romance' novelist....so I guess I like romance novels now. #noshame.

I still want to read Brain On Fire and I am adding The Invention of Wings, The Rosie Project, One More Thing: stories and other stories and The Husband's Secret to my list. But don't be surprised if skip that list and read another one by Moyes :)

What is on your reading list?

weekend good things.

Happy Monday! I had a very relaxing weekend but spent most of it fighting off a nasty cold (or allergies-- I'm not sure?!). I still found some time to fit in a few good things...
On Friday night H and I had an after work date night at Bar Toma downtown. We had really great appetizers -- hot meatballs and tasty Burrata (fresh cheese made from mozzarella and cream). But I was very disappointed with the pizza - Penso Positivo (pancetta, fingerling potatoes and rosemary), it was sooo heavy and I think it's time to accept I am not a fan of pancetta!!

After dinner we went to North Face and I found the cutest rain jacket -- Romera North Face JacketIf you know me or my style you should be a little surprised. I usually don't like "sporty" or "outdoorsy" clothing...but this coat is perfect! It's similar to a H&M coat I wore in Turkey BUT it's actually waterproof! For reference I am 5'4 and I wear a size small and it's available in bright blue, black and tan.

I slept in until 10:30 AM on Saturday-- which I haven't done for years!! I guess I needed it. When I finally got up we went sofa shopping at West Elm and found 3 great options (one, two, three). Later that day I finished another JoJo Moyes book -- "The Girl You Left Behind." It was SO good. Now I need to get my hands on something new. We ended the night with dinner at Flat Top (one of my favorites)... I made a delicious stir-fry with spicy thai basil sauce, brown rice, veggies and chicken. And we finished our taxes (party animals!)

On Sunday I did a little Spring cleaning and organized our vinyl collection. I also made lemon chicken and artichoke pasta (recipe post later this week!) and napped again (ugh allergies!)

How was your weekend?

shop crush: LAmade.

SPRING is here!! Well technically... it's snowing in Chicago today but it'll be high 50's tomorrow. I'd rather just skip right to 75 degree days and tank tops. I want the weather to get warmer so I can wear my new cape cod mini dress! I have tried it on a few times and it looks great with sandals. It's the first LAmade item that I have purchased and now I have my eye on a few other pieces from the line:

Piperlime sells a large collection of LAmade items or you can shop on LAmade's website for the full line (bonus: sign up for their e-mail list and receive 15% off your first order).

What brand are you loving lately?

spring beauty picks at Ulta.

Full disclosure: I received complimentary samples of Cristophe Hair Care hair products to review. This is a PR collaboration, but all opinions and product picks are my own. Thank you for supporting the brands that support Cornflake Dreams.

Spring starts tomorrow (YAH!) -- and it's a great time to refresh your beauty products. I typically use Bumble and Bumble hair products but sometimes I like to switch it up and try something new. Since this winter has been brutal on my skin and hair I decided to try a new hydrating line of hair products. Ulta introduced me to Cristophe professional hair products (which now sell in stores) and they sent me a few samples to try. I tried the hydrating shampoo and conditioner and I loved it! It made my hair soft and shiny and it felt more hydrated (bonus: it's also 1/2 the price of my normal products). I also tried the volumizing spray tonic which I liked but the pump stuck a little bit making it somewhat difficult to use. I also love Hempz original herbal body moisturizer for dry skin. I started using this in high school and ten years later (eeks!) I still use it because it smells sooo good. Another good option for dry skin is the body shop almond hand & nail cream and I always have a Nivea lip balm in my purse. For Spring manis + pedis I love the Essie resort 4pc collectionOPI glitzerlan, Essie fashion playground (mint)   and OPI Italian love affair nail polishes.

What beauty products are you loving this Spring?

craving: lemon and blueberries.

The other day I updated my ABOUT page andI answered some frequently asked questions, including "what are your favorite foods?" Milk chocolate, peanut butter and pumpkin pie all made the list -- and let's not forget about lemon and blueberries! The sweet duo is one of my favorite light flavor combinations and it is perfect for Spring.
baked oatmeal / buttermilk pancakes / spiked blueberry lemonade / cupcakes / sweet rollsbread

What is your favorite sweet flavor combination?

color crush: mint green.

Happy St. Patty's Day! In honor of the Irish holiday I have rounded up my favorite minty picks:

rikshaw design embroidered shift dress (this is an easy option for warmer temps) / gold dust collar necklace  / butter London nail lacquer / luggage tag / BRK water bottle (I really want one of these bottles --does anyone have one? do you like it?!) / etched enamel bracelet / 3" chino shorts / SJP bobbie sandal (I love the scallop details)/ petal chandelier earrings / mint tieks ballet flats (I have these flats in pink, black and gray --they are VERY comfortable and worth every penny. I want a bright pair for Spring).

Do you have any mint pieces in your closet?

spring shopping hits and misses.

Happy Friday! I am so ready for the weekend!! After a snow storm earlier this week it is warming up in Chicago (YAH!). This month I have been doing quite a bit of online shopping (I'll admit it's probably not the best way to cope with the cold weather) but I have manage to find some really great pieces for spring -- and summer!  Here are my spring hits and misses:

-LA Made cape cod mini dress - This dress is incredibly flattering, the fabric has lots of stretch but it isn't too clingy. It will look great with nude sandals this spring and summer.
-Dense Loft bi-stretch ankle zip pants - These are fantastic work pants, the fabric is thick but still has a great amount of stretch without suffocating your legs. (now 40% off - no code required).
-Lightweight merino tunic sweater - I love this sweater! The fabric is light, perfect for spring and its has a looser fit without being overwhelming. I have it in navy and now I want it in lilac.
-Bauble Bar maharaja fringe and gold tab necklaces - the gold tab necklace is sold out but I love the athena tab strand necklace... must. stop. buying jewelry.
-Old Navy tab-collar tunic dress -This dress is similar to the LA Made dress-- 3/4 sleeves with a button down henley collar. I can't wait to wear it to work with a belt and heels and later this summer with sandals.
-Beach tie waist strapless blue dress - I generally do not wear strapless summer dresses but I couldn't resist the bold blue color. It's super comfortable and it will be perfect for hot summer days. (40% off - no code required)
-Beach double strap wrap black dress - This is another great summer dress, it can also be used as a swimsuit cover-up. (40% off - no code required)

-Blue stripe beach dress - I had high hopes for this dress and stalked it for weeks online until it was finally restocked in my size. Imagine my disappointment when I finally got it in the mail and the elastic mid-waist fit was super awkward and the material was thin and looked cheap. I have already returned it!
-Jersey tank dress - ugh. no. great concept but the fabric was sheer and it has that weird elastic waist again -- another one for the return pile.
-Swing sweater - So this sweater works for a lot of people but I just wasn't a fan, it was just wayy too wide for me.
-Striped scoop neck linen tee - The linen fabric had a shiny appearance that was distracting and not flattering.
-Jcrew look-alike navy jacket from Target- I have this jacket in olive from Jcrew so I couldn't help but compare the two. The styles are similar but the fabric reveals the difference in price...the Target version is plasticy and looks cheap. The Jcrew downtown field jacket is water-resistant, resin-coated canvas, it resembles an even more expensive British brand (Barbour) and I think it'll for years. Do yourself and your closet a favor and save your money and buy the original.

#TBT travel to istanbul, turkey.

The other day my co-worker told me that he is thinking about traveling to Turkey. I got realllly excited and told him he should absolutely go. It's such a beautiful city with lots of history and culture...and great food. I started daydreaming about our trip there, we went April 2012 (time flies!) and it was one of my favorite cities. Istanbul is extremely walkable so you can explore everything by foot, but if you need a ride you can easily hop on the tram (the city has three separate tram lines - a modern train and two vintage trains). The train tickets, food and hotels are very affordable -- compared to prices in Europe. And the city has has lot of great free things to see -- mosques, markets and bazaars, a massive park in the middle of the city and the Bosphorus straight (water that separates Europe and Asia).
As I looked through my old Istanbul posts I realized I never included photos of the Dolmabahce Palace -- and that's probably because after an hour of waiting in line, we got annoyed and left. We never made it inside. fail. If the exterior looks THIS beautiful the inside is probably even better. Ah, well -- just another reason to visit again.

What vacation brings back great memories for you?

march houzz board: wall clocks.

Happy Monday! Did you remember to turn back your clocks? I am excited for longer days because that means Spring is on it's way! I plan on doing some Spring cleaning and redecorating this month and I would love to find a new wall clock for our living room (our current clock randomly stops ticking- not good!) shop crush: One Kings Lane.

I am in a little bit of a rut (I blame it on the never-ending winter), so I have been distracting myself with some online shopping (trouble, I know). I have received a few packages and some have been winners (this striped top and lightweight merino tunic sweater from jcrew), but others have been really disappointing (the swing sweater was MASSIVE! I know a ton of people love it but It just didn't work for me, sending it back!) SO I thought it might be better if I try to spruce up our house instead of my closet. You can’t go wrong with a five-minute makeover – just add some bright throw pillows. I found some great ones on One Kings Lane (I love the idea of mixing up different prints and colors):
medallion euro sham $35 / natural tile 18x18 cotton-blend pillow $59
navy kio star 20x20 cotton pillow $79 / orange/ blue grace 18x18 pillow $25
geometric 20x20 linen pillow $95 / equis 20x20 cotton pillow $79
gray striped 18x18 cotton pillow $35 chic blue 18x18 cotton pillow $19

hollywood girl crush.

I have a total Hollywood girl crush on Lupita Nyong'o (and I'm sure I am not the only one!) This award season she wore the most beautiful gowns and her Oscars acceptance speech was beyond beautiful - “No matter where you’re from, your dreams are valid.” LOVE IT.

and her latest instagram pic? seriously. too cute.

Who is your Hollywood girl crush?
