cornflake dreams.: March 2013

friday's fancies #106.

happy friday! it's been a crazy week but i am so grateful to have this blog and so thankful to all of my readers and your sweet comments. yesterday was the official launch of my Firm's website (aka the project i've been helping with for the past six months). it looks fantastic and i am SO proud to be a part of something so vital to our marketing department. now that it's live i feel like i can relax a little -- and that's exactly what i have planned for the weekend: naps, a walking dead marathon AND i guess i'll venture outside (chicago is finally getting on board with the whole spring thing).

chambray shirt $25 - skirt $64 - sandals $65 - bracelet $30

have a great weekend and happy easter!

shop crush: coach.

this shop crush isn't a new-to-me, my mom is a coach-aholic and has a pretty fantastic collection of coach purses, wallets and wristlets. she got me hooked (thank you) and i quickly realized why she was such a loyal customer. coach makes quality items with durable material (real leather) that last for years. if your bag does eventually need repair - coach offers free lifetime repairs - just pay shipping.

i have had my eye on a few coach purses but i thought it'd be more practical to treat myself (a la parks and rec) and buy a proper wallet for louie. only problem is i can't decide if i want something bright and fun (coral) or a classic color (camel) that i works year-round:
heritage stripe scarf $128 - heritage stripe woven oblong $158 - single legacy tassel keyfob $38 - casey sunglasses $148 -- [BONUS! like coach's facebook page and get a 25% off all orders]

what do you prefer? a BRIGHT splash of color or something a little more classic?

pair it with a pencil skirt.

i want to step up my office wardrobe this spring - what better way to do dress things up than throwing on a pencil skirt?! i found a great skirt in a few different colors on jcrew factory, it looks great paired with casual tops (a tee! or chambray shirt!) add a pretty necklace and boom! you're set::

how do you style your pencil skirts?

Happy Monday! It's been a long month and I am happy March is on it's way out!!

-I am incredibly grateful for my husband. He has been v patient and understanding through my recent health issues. Last week -after years of dealing with stomach issues- i finally went to see a GI doctor. After a series of tests, I was diagnosed with Crohn's Disease. H was by my side the whole time, offering support and optimistic words. it makes my heart swell to think about how lucky I am to have someone look over me.

All that serious aside, I'm also thankful for:
-The return of mad men - i miss you don draper but I hope you behave this season.
- Gatorade, propel and vitamin water aka the nectar of the gods.
- The countdown to travel season has officially begun with three trips in the next six months. I CAN'T wait.
-Grilled cheese with turkey, swiss & cheddar cheese, and sliced apples on sourdough bread, I had two this weekend and I am obsessed. try it!
- My dad! It's his birthday today and he is the man.

friday's fancies #105.

happy friday! it's been a long week and i'm looking forward to relaxing and catching up on some reading. spring hasn't quite arrived in chicago, so i'll still be bundled up in layers but i am dreaming of warmer weather, wedges and maxi dresses::
maxi dress $30 - wedges $140 - sunglasses $15 - tote $68 - earrings $30

have a great weekend!

ps there are a few days left to enter the ellie giveaway

eat this, not that.

this weekend i finally had a shamrock shake - i had been craving it for weeks, but after the first sip i was v disappointed. the creamy treat was nothing like what i remembered eating when i was younger. the fake minty flavor was overwhelming and tasted like someone mixed a tube of spearmint toothpaste with ice cream. eeeeks, even h's strawberry shake tasted v artificial and sickly sweet. i know what you are thinking -- it's mcdonald's, duh! it's going to be artificial but i didn't think they would mess up the all-mighty milkshake!

after this food disaster i starting thinking about how my taste buds have evolved over the years. the food that i love now, i wouldn't touch as a child! i constantly crave blu cheese, goat cheese...feta cheese (do you see a pattern?!) and h and i cook with tons of fresh veggies -- onions, red and green bell peppers and asparagus::

eat this// veggies galore: green and red peppers, onions - stinky cheese: blu cheese, goat cheese, feta cheese, ethnic favorites:: persian kabobs and mast o moosir, indian chicken tikka masala and naan bread, cuban sandwiches and empanadas, and tasty travel treats.

what food do you love now that you disliked as a child?

date night: shakespeare theater.

happy tuesday! i had a wonderful weekend and I am ready for another work-week.
-friday night h surprised me with dinner from my favorite sandwich place - vinnie's! we caught up on more episodes of downton abbey...and now anxiously awaiting another disk from netflix.
-saturday h and i went to the Shakespeare Theater at Navy Pier to see Juius Ceaser. it was a 3pm show, so we were the youngest people in the audience- ha! but it was a beautiful theater and i was impressed with the modern interpretation of the play (although i will admit i had a hard time understanding what the heck was going on since it's been years since i have read Shakespeare).
-sunday brunch at Mindy's Hot Chocolate was fantastic and on the walk home i spotted a few other restaurant i'd like to try (burgers @grass fed, mexican @antique taco and thai @silom12... i cannot wait for the return of summer, bike rides and outdoor patios!)
-sunday dinner was in greek town where we filled up on delicious gyros and feta zesti (feta cheese baked in between sliced tomatoes, herbs and olive oil).

ps in case you missed it: yesterday i announced the POND'S Luminous Effect Giveaway - enter to win the entire luminous line.

POND'S Review & Giveaway!

last week we talked about aging gracefully (thank you for all of your tips!) i was reminded of the importance of taking care of your skin, so i was excited to have the opportunity to try the POND'S Luminous Line.

my favorite product in the Luminous Line are hands down the wet cleansing towelettes - they are fantastic! the towelettes are a must for travelers and great for on-the go beauty care. they easily remove eye-makeup (even mascara!) and the towelettes are gentle on my sensitive skin. i also really loved the daily exfoliating cleanser - it was gentle but my skin felt much cleaner and fresher after i used the product.

the POND'S Luminous Line is a great line and to introduce the products, POND'S is hosting the 30-day Luminous Photo Sweepstakes on their Facebook page and inviting women to share photos of their happiest, most radiant moments. - [From March 4 through April 2, women can upload pictures to the POND’S® Facebook page or share via Twitter or Instagram by using the hashtag #LuminousEffect for the chance to win one of 30 prizes]

i felt luminous and beautiful on my wedding day! i was incredibly happy and excited on my big day and i was SO happy with how my makeup looked (i generally only wear eye makeup so it was fun to get a little dolled up!) now that the wedding is over, i feel luminous when i treat myself with a mini spa day (complete with an at home mud mask, pedicure, and a long HOT shower with a ton of moisturizer afterwards).

to celebrate the launch POND'S is gifting one lucky Cornflake Dreams' reader the entire POND'S Luminous Line [wet cleansing towelettes, moisturizer, moisture day lotion with SPF 15, daily exfoliating cleanser and cream cleanser]! enter below and best of luck!

full disclosure: this paid sponsored campaign for One2One Network. I received product to review but all opinions stated are my own.

what's on your spring wishlist?!

aging gracefully.

at 27 years old i have noticed a few gray hairs. i blame it on stress from work... but my family history tells me i will be seeing more of those pesky gray hairs in the (near) future. i want to wait to start dying my hair until it's absolutely necessary -- hello, expensive maintenance costs!

audrey via

meryl via

i want to earn my wrinkles and look my age BUT i think you can age gracefully :) in order to avoid botox and other cosmetic procedures i am trying to live a healthier lifestyle -- eating healthier foods, being sun savvy and making time for workouts. but when do you bust out the wrinkle creams or eye serum?!?

do you have any beauty secrets or products that you swear by?

max studio spring picks.

spring is just around the corner and so is my younger brother's wedding! it's at the end of april and i still have to find the perfect dress. i would like to get something classy but simple that i can dress up with jewelry. max studio has a huge selection of cocktail dresses and evening dresses, these are my favorite picks::

are you attending any weddings this spring?

good things.

happy monday! i had a fannntatic weekend that was full of lots o good things...including the book of mormon

-h and i saw The Book of Mormon on friday and it did not disapoint. sure it was a little offensive and it's defiantly not for everyone... but that's to be expected from a musical by the creators of south park - right? i liked it a lot -- i was in awe of the dancing and the set changes. i am still warming up to all the signing but i think this was a good (first) musical for me to see.
- on saturday we finally picked up our framed mosaic tiles from turkey! i am so happy to see them finally hanging up in our kitchen.
- we finished the weekend with sunday dinner with the family at our favorite mexican restaurant (DeColores in Pilsen).

annnd the lucky winner of the club carlson giveaway is Mary K. congrats! please email me.

friday's fancies #102.

happy friday! tonight we're seeing the Book of Mormon! i'm not a huge musical fan but i think this show might change my mind. we don't have any plans for the rest of the weekend and i am relieved. i feel like february was a little overbooked so it's nice to have time to just relax and rest.
