a louis vuitton love story.

i fell in love with louie last summer in paris on my honeymoon. i keep seeing the classic brown monogram pattern everywhere and i wanted to take the iconic french bag home with me. it would be the ultimate souviener. so i dragged my patient husband to galleries lafayette, where we waiting in line with of other eager tourists. while i was in line i spotted the style i wanted: the speedy 30. and so we waited. and waited. and after thirty minutes, i started feeling really guilty about wasting our honeymoon time in PARIS in a department store in line. so we left. and of course the rest of the week mr. monogram continued to haunt me and pop up everywhere. i promised myself i would save and buy the bag next summer for my birthday.
fast forward seven months later to this past weekend, when h told me he had a suprise for me. "let's go buy your bag." my jaw dropped. he went on to say that i was working a lot lately and i deserved it. jaw still dropped - h didn't love the idea of spending so much for a purse, so i was shocked that he wanted to buy the bag for me. i geeked out for a little bit and i was all smiles. he already called the oakbrook shopping center and they had the bag i wanted in stock (ummm cute!) and that was that. we went out to the store and he made it happen! i went home with a beautiful speedy bandouliere 30 bag (with an adjustable strap for hand, crossbody or shoulder carry). the bag was well worth the wait and it means so much more to me since h helped make it happen :)

will you watch the oscars? who do you want to win?!

blue crush.

even though our trip to greece is still 3 months away, that hasn't stopped me from thinking about what i'd like to wear! i recently got a gorgeous french blue eshakti dress - which customized by adding straps and shortening the hemline (i'm only 5'4, so tea-length dresses are awkward). the dress fits perfectly and it even has pockets! i think for our trip to the mediterranean i would like to stick with a simple color palate of french blue and classic navy mixed in with crisp white and black.

craving: cuban!

last week i went to dinner with a friend at my favorite local cuban restaurant, habana libre. whenever i go out for cuban i always order the same thing: an empanada with a cuban sandwich. drool

cuban sandwiches are typically made with smoked ham, sweet ham, roasted pork, swiss cheese, mustard and pickles on toasted french bread. and then there are empandas...glorious pastries stuffed with meat and cheese. yes, please. sandwiches and empanadas aside - i'd like to try other cuban dishes like cuban pulled pork sandwiches or cuban pizza

do you like cuban food? what are some good dishes to try?

-later that day, h and i watched more downton abby - we're on season two but now i need to wait on another disk from netflix.
-on sunday we skipped the aquarium. it was just TOO cold to go outside! (wahhh chicago!) so i spent the day cleaning, reading and snuggling :)
-sunday night dinner the family went out for pizza at pequods (they serve my kind of deep dish, with super crispy crust and the perfect amount of cheese).

how was your weekend?

the perfect ballet flats.

i mentioned tieks before but now i want to share a little more about what i think are the perfect ballet flats. tieks by gavrieli have a trademark (non-skid) blue rubble sole and an innovative folding design that makes them perfect for travel! the flats are made out of high quality materials - soft italian leather, patent leather and even vegan fabric!

i have a pair from their vegan line (silver lake) and classic italian leather (matte back). both pairs are v comfortable and fit perfectly and do not pinch my heels (they are cushioned).

silver lake - part of tiek's vegan collection. these shoes are even prettier in person! they look gray from far away but close up you'll notice they have hints of gorgeous silver threading in the fabric.

matte black - classic italian leather flats.

each pair of Tieks comes packaged in a compact bright blue box topped with a happy flower. inside you'll find your flats along with a compact pouch to compress your folded flats when they are in your purse and a reusable tote for your heels (or lunch!) i know the $165+ price tag might give you a little sticker shock but trust me, they are worth the investment! i am already dreaming of another pair: i am smitten with the classic ballerina pink style.

i am a huge fan of summer, sunshine and yellow! since we're stuck in the middle of winter i thought it might be nice and think of sunnier days -- or at least sunnier things! this month my houzz board is a collection of bright yellow pieces! here's a peek::

good things!

happy monday - this weekend flew by! don't they always :) i got a happy surprise this weekend - our wedding invitation suite (by the v talented megan gonzalez of maemae paperie) was featured on one of my favorite wedding blogs, 100 layer cake

-i cooked up some healthy chicken enchiladas for lunch on saturday. i didn't use any cheese or heavy sauce but the green salsa added tons of great flavor.

-our saturday night improv date was pretty entertaining -- more so because of the teenagers in the crowd than the comedians. there was one tina-fey look-alike that i thought was pretty funny.

-for sunday dinner we went to our favorite persian restaurant (where i ate a LOT of mast o moosir!!)

how was your weekend?!

what's for dinner?

h usually gets home from work before i do, so he does the majority of cooking during the week and i do the dishes. last month we were starting to get into a dinner rut where we made the same thing every week (a rotation of tacos, pizza, estamble polo (an persian dish) and spaghetti -- all loaded with the same vegetables --  onions, green and red peppers and tomatoes). we needed to shake things up with new recipes that incorporated  different ingredients.

bobby's stuffed bell peppers - (recipe adapted from the cooking channel show not my mama's meals) - i made a few changes to the original recipe, substituting ranch dressing powder instead of salsa and using greek yogurt not sour cream. we also added in a small handful of diced grape tomatoes for sweetness.

Preheat the oven to 350 degree F. Start by cutting the peppers in half lengthwise, leaving the stems intact. Remove the seeds and ribs inside the peppers.

Heat a skillet to medium-high heat and add the olive oil and onions, cook for about 1 minute. Next add the ground beef and garlic and cook until the onions become translucent, about 6 minutes. Mix in and cook grape tomatoes for 2 minutes.
In a separate bowl mix 1/2 packet of Ranch dressing seasoning, the rice, greek and yogurt. Add the ground beef mixture and combine thoroughly. Stuff the mixture into the peppers. Sprinkle each pepper half with 2 tablespoons of the cheese.
Place the stuffed peppers in a casserole dish, cover with foil and bake for 30 minutes. Remove the foil and continue to cook until heated through, 15 minutes. Top with basil and enjoy.

what are you cooking up for dinner?!

dreaming of warmer weather (and havaianas!)

Full Disclaimer: This is a sponsored post, thank you to Havaianas for providing compensation. As always, all thoughts are my own. Thank you for supporting brands that support Cornflake Dreams.

winter is in full swing in chicago... frigid walks to the train have me dreaming of warmer weather and vacations, so naturally i started looking for new shoes :) i am a huge flip flop fan and i love havaianas - they are super comfortable and they come in a huge variety of colors and styles. i'd love to get a pair of light sand and something really bright like the pink salmon for our trip to greece this may.
bonus: havaianas offers $1 flat rate shipping on all orders.
are you ready for summer yet?!

good things.

happy monday! i had a great weekend full of so many good things. a lot of really little things actually :)
{lovely little things:: it's february, which means we're getting closer to summer - funfetti cupcakes and wild berry skittles are my winter blues medication - don't you love re-discovering something in your closet?! i found these two coach clutches in my dresser. glad i kept them around!}

- friday h and i watched the shining. it was the first time i watched the entire movie and whoaaa creepy. i can see why jack nicholson is famous for this flick... but i couldn't stop concentrating on the horrible clothes they put his wife in. i get it, you're all alone in a hotel in the mountains but that mustard-colored corduroy overall jumper thing is no bueno. REDRUM it.
- saturday night we got together with friends for game night. we played catch phrase (on an ipad app!) and scattergories... i had a LOT of fun and i loved seeing h's quirky and creative answers.
- the big game on at our place on sunday was AC Milan (the italian soccer team), they just acquired a new player and h was v excited to see him play (they won!) and we got to watch the other big game...AND Beyonce -- who needs moderately entertaining commercials when you have a mini destiny's child reunion?!

how was your weekend? did you watch the super bowl -- any favorite commercials?
