cornflake dreams.: eat this, not that.

eat this, not that.

this weekend i finally had a shamrock shake - i had been craving it for weeks, but after the first sip i was v disappointed. the creamy treat was nothing like what i remembered eating when i was younger. the fake minty flavor was overwhelming and tasted like someone mixed a tube of spearmint toothpaste with ice cream. eeeeks, even h's strawberry shake tasted v artificial and sickly sweet. i know what you are thinking -- it's mcdonald's, duh! it's going to be artificial but i didn't think they would mess up the all-mighty milkshake!

after this food disaster i starting thinking about how my taste buds have evolved over the years. the food that i love now, i wouldn't touch as a child! i constantly crave blu cheese, goat cheese...feta cheese (do you see a pattern?!) and h and i cook with tons of fresh veggies -- onions, red and green bell peppers and asparagus::

eat this// veggies galore: green and red peppers, onions - stinky cheese: blu cheese, goat cheese, feta cheese, ethnic favorites:: persian kabobs and mast o moosir, indian chicken tikka masala and naan bread, cuban sandwiches and empanadas, and tasty travel treats.

what food do you love now that you disliked as a child?

  2. I totally know how you feel! I recently indulged in a Diary Queen bilzzard and was disgusted by it. All I could taste was the sugar, so much sugar in fact that I couldn't taste any of the flavors that it was supposed to taste like.

But hey, our taste buds are changing for the better, at least the healthier! Could be worse.

  4. My taste buds have definitely evolved over the years too. I'm so glad they did or I'd seriously be missing out. I haven't had a milkshake from McD's in years and hearing your thoughts makes me not want to.

  5. As a child, I absolutely detested mushrooms. Fast forward 31 years, and I can't get enough of the darn things. The thought right now of sauteed creminis with sea salt and olive oil and some fresh chopped rosemary is making me positively salivate.

  6. I still dislike mushrooms & olives - But I LOVE everything else :) Blue cheese, brussel sprouts & broccli are probably the three things that I don't know why I disliked so much growing up - I don't know how I could live without them now! That and seafood - I hated it when I was little - now I could seriously eat shrimp, salmon, lobster, crab every.sinlge.day!!!

  7. Yummmmm! I have a craving for some goat cheese & asparagus now! ;) I still don't like bleu cheese, though.

When I was little I didn't like mashed potatoes. I KNOW! bahaha. But oh man... roasted garlic mashed potatoes? YUM. I might have to make some tonight... ;)!

  9. Totally! I have a sordid love affair with veggies. This came up just a few years ago when I realized how good they made me feel. And how delicious they are. But fruit? No and never.

  10. I tease John that's he's completely changed my palette–I used to be terrified of avocados, poached eggs, Indian food...
