when i started blogging i wanted to use it as a way to get creative and connect with other bloggers. along the way i have made some amazing real-life friends and i have had fun documenting our travels and adventures in the city.
i am constantly inspired by bloggers who put hours into their posts and find the time to produce original and interesting content. as much as i love blogging, it can be overwhelming to balance a full-time work schedule and blog every day.
i have decided i need to get back to the basics and refocus on the things that i really love, instead of just keeping up with the blogosphere and self-imposed post deadlines. i'm going to try to post 5x a week but if i don't have anything interesting to post about (or the time to create a post i am proud of) i'm taking the day off! it may not be a revolutionary idea but i think it will make me happy.
here are a few things you can look forward to in 2013::
life in chicago: dates. sunday dinner restaurant reviews. my favorite spots.
travel: i have some pretty sweet trips planned for this year and i can't wait to share them with you.
shopping: i am going to limit my shopping posts to really special items AND budget finds since i get pretty excited to find a great deal in real life.
even more food: in addition to restaurant reviews, expect more craving posts as i always seem to be craving something...and this year i want to actually cook those treats!
anything else you'd like to see?!

jillian

I'm pumped to hear about your 2013 travels!!
Yes this sounds very exciting, looking forward to these blog posts! Especially the travel ones...amazing!
I've been thinking the same thing for my blog lately. I decided to focus on a few things that I really love (photography, cooking, portland) and use that as my guideline for posting. I find that when I post about things that I love, it makes me happier :)
I love pretty much everything you post here :) I can't wait to see where you travel to next - and always love seeing posts about Chicago!
looking forward to following your blog in 2013... perhaps you can also throw in bits & pieces of inspiration - like this amazing quotation at the top of this post!
Great resolutions! I can attest that freeing yourself from self-imposed blogger guilt is beyond liberating and the best thing I did in 2012.
We can't compare ourselves to ladies with 20+ hours to devote to a blog when we're working full-time with spouses and a social life - something's gotta give and we're at a pretty cool part of life at the moment so it's time to enjoy it!
looking forward to it! x.
Yours was one of the first blogs I ever started reading. I'm excited to see the new content and get a little more of glimpse into one of my fave cities. :)
Happy New Year Jillian! I can't wait to see what new and exciting things 2013 brings for you! xoxo
I couldn't agree more! Such a fabulous way to start the new year ... looking forward to what 2013 has in store!
Agreed! It's tough to come up with interesting stuff all the time-- especially with a full time job. Looking forward to reading more in 2013. Happy New Year!
I cannot wait for your travel and food posts. Yay!!!!
I'm with you lady! I live in Milwaukee and frequently travel to Chicago for fun with the girls or my husband - recommendations from locals are always the best. I write a blog primarily focused on my experiences and thoughts about motherhood. I feel jittery if I don't post a few times a week and want to end the self-imposed deadlines as well. Don't worry - if you disappear for a few days/weeks, we won't forget you!
good for you , lady!!! :) happy new year!!!!
I'm right there with you on the blogging thing. I too have felt uninspired lately. Here's to trying to get back at it in 2013 and attempting to take off when there's nothing to write about. :)
Such a good idea Jillian. Kirby and I are cutting back our posts as well. It was becoming way too forced, which is not what we want.
Love the refocus! I'm fairly new to blogging, but I've found that the posts I try to force because "I need to post that day" are the ones that I'm usually not the happiest with.
Can't wait to see your posts in the new year! xo
Sounds awesome! Cannot wait to read more. :)
xoxo
Bring on more food baby! I always love drooling...Just sayin'. : )
Love the focus–can't wait to enjoy 2013 on cornflake dreams!
That is my number one resolution as well! This post was inspiring and I hope you have a wonderful 2013!
i am so right there with you!!! i have some big time blog goals this year, too! i love following you into a new year and can't wait to see what becomes of cornflake dreams! XO brynn
