wedding wednesday - reception details.

happy wedding wednesday! today i'd love to share details from our wedding reception. we had the dinner reception in the same space as our ceremony, at the metropolis ballrooms. i wanted the space to be light and summery. i kept things simple - and focused on the flowers and pops of red::

our wedding cake was a nod to summertime: a light white cake with sweet strawberry preserves and white buttercream frosting, decorated with polka dots and topped off with our custom cake toppers.

we had a sofreh, an Iranian wedding table, with a variety of symbolic items- painted eggs for fertility, candles for a bright future, Persian coins for prosperity on display during the reception. my mother-in-law spent hours creating each piece on the table.

i'll share more wedding details more next week!

wedding wednesday - our ceremony.

h and i had a difficult time deciding what we wanted to do with our wedding ceremony. we wanted to incorporate both of our families religious traditions but also keep the focus on US. i am christian, h is atheist - my family is primarily catholic, while he has a mix of christian, muslim and atheists family members. it would be pretty difficult to please everyone, so we decided to combine a traditional christian american ceremony with persian traditions and added in swoon-worthy songs that make me smile.

we had a christian reverend officiate the ceremony with an opening prayer, we lit unity candles, my god mother recited a poem and there was a closing blessing. i walked down the aisle with my dad - while José González hearbeats played. to reflect h's heritage, we incorporated a traditional persian sugar bell ceremony. my bridesmaid rubbed two sugar bells (brought over from Iran for the wedding) over our heads while we exchanged our vows - the rubbing of the two sugar bells is a symbol for a sweet life.

the ceremony was perfect - a wonderful blend of our two cultures and a reflection of us. i had to hold back my happy tears so i didn't mess up my makeup but whenever i think about the ceremony i am extremely happy with how things went. (and how we left, as mr. & mrs. smiling our faces off and to god only knows by the beach boys!)

craving: caramel apples.

this might be a bit premature but i am desperately craving caramel apples. it might be the sudden change of weather we had over the weekend in chicago (it actually got chilly!) fall is on it's way and i want some apple carmely- goodness.

good things.

happy monday! i hope all of you had a wonderful weekend. we stuck to most of our plans but we didn't make it to the field museum. i forgot it was football sunday and that translates into a very lazy sunday :)

-my friday girl-date was just lovely...however i was had a hard time keeping quiet during the artist. meh.. i think i got the gist of it.
-the opera in millennium park was wonderful and v. relaxing. mental note: must try to attend at least one more concert in the park before the end of the season.
-it feels like fall and i'm READY for it. bring on the boots, scarves, sweaters and jackets.
-grilled cheese + tomato soup is pretty delicious stuff -- why don't i eat this more often?!
- there is a target opening soon that is ginarmous AND within biking distance from our condo. we took a quick trip to check it out on saturday and i am psyched. so was the man rolling by on his skateboard yelling "it's almost here! TARGETTTTTT!" :)
-we finished the weekend with pizza (whootwhoot PAPA JOHNS!) at my father-in-laws and looked at our wedding photos (again). thank you all for your sweet comments on our sneak peek shots! i can't wait to share more.
-my september houzz board is up! this month it's all about picks for an industrial kitchen.

friday's fancies #78.

tonight i have a girl-date with my bestie. we're watching the artist and working on some wedding DIY projects (both things i know the men in our lives wouldn't mind missing!) on saturday i plan to attend an opera in downtown millennium park... so you know i can pretend to know something about opera and classical music. it's really all about the cheese, wine, city lights and good friends :) sunday h and i are taking a trip to the field museum (thank you, freebie day!) so wowzah! looks like it'll be quite the culture-filled weekend!! no worries... i'll keep things real with a papa johns pizza sunday dinner with the fam.

wedding wednesday - sneak peek pics!

i received a few sneak peek wedding photos from my photographer last week and i was thrilllllled. i immediately posted a handful onto facebook and i was overwhelmed by the amount of sweet comments from my friends and family. so i thought it might be time to share a few with you!
h and i decided we wanted to maximize photo time before our ceremony to take photos together and with our bridal party. we started the afternoon with a little reveal and then headed out to the woods. it was drizzling during the shoot but thankfully dawn, our photographer brought a cute umbrella! the rain eventually stopped and the sun smiled the rest of the day. i am absolutely smitten with these ethereal shots:

[all photos by the talented chicago photographer dawn e. roscoe]

stay tuned...i can't wait to share more detail, ceremony and reception shots!

craving: pb & chocolate.

is there a better combination than peanut butter and chocolate? absolutely not. you can sneak in a few other ingredients - pumpkin - graham crackers and marshmallows - bananas - pretzels... but if you have peanut butter and chocolate somewhere you can't go wrong!

have any other peanut butter and chocolate combination ideas?!

good things.

happy labor day!! i am ecstatic to have another day off :) so this post will be short and sweet.

so far we've had a super productive weekend full of lots of good things::

-friday night we finally watched the hunger games movie! i thought it was a pretty good adaptation from the book but i caught myself pointing out differences (and most likely driving h crazy...he's never read the books so NO! i wasn't happy with some of the casting. woody harrelson?! really?)
-h repotted our money tree and we found a plant for our big pot in the living room
-our itty bitty laundry room got some loving with additional hooks and baskets for storage
-in an effort to use up some leftovers and clean out the fridge we cooked up a super tasty (and easy) dish: pan fried turkey kielbasa with diced onions and green peppers mixed with white rice and cheddar cheese. holy tasty. it think it was the kielbasa.
-saturday night we had a date night and saw celeste and jessie forever. i really liked it and it made my incredibly grateful for my husband
-i scored some sweet heels at DSW for my best friends wedding
-sunday dinner was upscale mexican food at las palmas in wicker park - i had some v tasty guac, tortilla chicken soup and a bite of h's to-die-for pineapple and tequila skirt steak

can't wait to see what today brings :)
