our vacation to-do list.

eat. walk. see. shop. sleep. repeat.

that's what i plan on doing all next week in turkey. i have had quite a few people ask me why.. why am i going to turkey? what is there to do there? why not europe?

i always have the same response - h and i wanted to go somewhere NEW, somewhere different but with food we love. we also scored a sweet deal on non-stop flights last august - so that helps!

it's the perfect time to go on a trip - a break away from wedding planning, and a mental break for both of us from our busy jobs. i can't wait to spend seven days with my man, eating kabobs and cheese, and fresh bread; exploring the city and seeing all the gorgeous architecture and shopping in the grand bazaar... (i already have a mini shopping wishlist!)

where do you want to travel?
If you have been to Istanbul are there any sites we should put on our must see list?!

  13. Istanbul is my fav. We were there 2 years ago and are going again in 3 weeks as part of a more extensive Turkey trip. Have so much fun. There is so much to do. Definitely go to all the top spots (Blue Mosque, Hagia Sophia, Topkapi Palace, Bosphorus cruise, Galata Bridge, Temple of Sulleymon (sp?), Grand Bazaar, the Cistern). You definitely won't get bored and the food is fantastic.

  22. turkey is SO fun. have a great time. if you like cherries- they have yummy cherry juice called "vishnay" (probably spelled totally different.)

anyway, have a GREAT time. i think you two are bad a for taking a trip like this! someday, i need to hear what you do for a living that gives you time off for these great trips!

  23. my favourite places are around the Bosphorus... an evening tour on the ferry will be amazing.

Mado icecream is a must try.

The sour cherry juice is Vişne Suyu. Amazing!!! Amazing place to reflect is the garden area Süleymaniye Mosque, especially just before the last call to prayer. Amazing hearing all the various call to prayer around Istanbul.

    Have a great time!!
I'm going there hopefully late summer and moving there at the end of the yr (hopefully) for good.

  24. I've always wanted to go to Turkey! I've heard great things about it from friends.

And we got a lot of the same questions when we honeymooned in Egypt- sometimes you just want to do something different!

  26. Why wouldn't you want to go to Turkey? I've been longing to visit for as long as I can remember - my mum went there before I was born, and her pictures are incredible.

  27. You are going to have a wonderful time. Are you going anywhere besides Istanbul? It's such a cosmopolitan, clean city.

One of my favorite memories of Istanbul was wandering around this gorgeous city park with flowers meticulously planted in rows of colors. At the top of a hill there was a small tea garden where you could overlook all the ships out at sea. Stunning.

Be careful in the Grand Bazaar - the vendors can be BRUTAL and aggressive. I ended up in tears after a guy was trying to get our attention and to get us to come to his booth by calling me "fat". The spice market closer to the Bosphorus River was more my speed!

And now I'm craving a doner kebab :)
