adventures in puppy-sitting.

happy monday! tonight we return little dougie, the corgi, to my parents. it was an entertaining weekend puppy-sitting and we had fun taking dougie out for walks. he is a country dog so he was v distracted by the cars, other dogs, plastic bags and SHINY things!. when we weren't outside dougie slept. a lot. and he barked at the washing machine. and that's about it. overall he was a pretty well-behaved dog and i am glad we got to watch him. dougie is adorable, there's no denying that - but after this weekend i realized that i'm not really ready for a dog in the city. i liked taking him for walks, but it's also spring and the weather is gorgeous. fast forward a few months to winter and freezing temps: would i be super excited to take him on walks then?! eh, not so much. good thing he already has a good home! we'll adopt a pup when we buy a house with a bigggg fenced in yard!

do you have pets?
was it a big adjustment to bring them into your home?

  1. He's so cute! We're currently debating getting wither a lab or a corgi since we just moved into a place with a yard. But, we aren't sure yet, because like you I don't know if were in the best situation to care for a puppy. Someday though!

  2. What a doll! I have a corgi too and absolutely love them. While they are a lot of work, once you have your own and develop that bond, you don't even think about it anymore. It's just worth it!

  4. So cute! It's definitely a smart move to wait for that fenced in backyard. I have a small dog right now, but in a few weeks I'm moving from the Boston burbs and into the city. And I have to get rid of him :( (Boston is incredibly UN-pet-friendly.) He has a good home to go to, but it's heartbreaking! Definitely wait until you have a home home, if ya know what I mean :) xoxo, morgan

  5. I love corgis! Their butts are my favorite. But, yes, a yard is super important.

  6. He is adorable! I've always had a dog- from my suburban childhood home to my adult city condo. Between the dog parks & long walks, it's not big deal. I can't imagine not having our pup but yes, those winter & rainy walks are no fun!!

  8. Adorable pup! We want a dog sooooo bad, but we have 2 cats that have been with us since they were babies - they are now 13. We see ia dog being a bit of a challenge since the cats obviously own the place currently ;) One day, though... XO brynn

  10. What a sweet face! We have a dog, in a city, and it was a huge adjustment for us but we love her so much we can't even imagine life without her! It is sometimes really hard to get out bed to take her on a walk in the cold but we do it because we know its good for her!

  13. OMG. He is adorable! We have a little lab/beagle mix. He is super cute, but really a terribly little dog. He does the whole "....but I'm so cute look all of the time."

  14. i always thought i wanted a dog, but realize now how difficult it would be to take care of along with a newborn! pets will have to wait until children are old enough to help out with them :)

  15. my 8 month old husky pup has grown overnight to over 50 pounds. that being said we love him but he is a lot of work! we have to coordinate who will be able to take him out when we both have long nights at work or when we got out of town. dogs are a huge responsibility but tons of fun!

  16. I love how saucy he is! John and I feel the same way–we'd love a dog, but we're just not ready to do it yet, especially not while we live in an apartment!

  17. He's adorable!!!! Scott & I both grew up with dogs--but we know we didn't have the time or the yard to own one once we got married. So we picked up precious little kitten Moses [neither one of us knew ANYTHING about cats] & he's had our hearts ever since!!

  19. Our pups changed our lives. I can't imagine having her in Chicago, no way! We don't have a fenced yard (my God that would be perfection) but it's definitely nice to have the option of putting her outside and getting her out of our hair! They're a mess. A big furry slobbery mess :)

  20. I don't have any pets but I dream about getting a dog just about every day. I know it's a ton of work though which is why I'm hesitant to pull the trigger.
