when i grow up...

i was talking to h the other night and i asked him when he was a child what did he want to be when he grew up? he said doctor. and he is a doctor. boom! way to make it happen! well, i wanted to be a dolphin trainer. im not terribly upset that my dream was never realized (not sure i'd look great in a wetsuit) but it got me thinking about how we change as we grow up and how our dreams evolve (or don't).

i'm curious when you were little what did you want to "be" when you grew up? and what do you do now? are you on the road to your dream job?

  2. I had similar dreams to you as well, I wanted to be a zookeeper! I still think that would be really fun actually, but I stink at science so it probably wouldn't work.

Now I have the best job ever...expat blogging fitness cooking housewife - who plans a billion vacations each year. :-) Yes, I know I am a very lucky lady...

  11. The kid in the lobster pot is too funny!

I wanted to be a Broadway star, but don't have the ridiculous drive it takes to get that far! I also briefly wanted to be a figure skater but my parents weren't willing to mortgage the house for it (so mean).

  12. I totally wanted to be a dolphin trainer! Then I found out I had to major in marine biology and I tossed that one out th window. Then I kind of decided on what I'm doing now, I knew I love the fashion industry and wanted to work in it somewhere. So i'm kind of doing what I said.

  15. Cute images! I wanted to be a ballerina and nothing else. I was on my way until a bad injury. Since then, I've never been sure about what I want to do or be.

  17. When I was younger I want to be a veterinarian I loved animals so much. I still love animals but not as much and I could not do surgery or give them shots haha I am certain if I really wanted to I would. I also wanted to be an artist. I am somewhat an artist now but not a devoted one. I also am working in my parents auto body shop in the office.

  21. I mostly wanted to be a lawyer, but I also didn't know that you actually had to get trained to be a lawyer (I mostly thought you showed up in court and argued with people). Now, I'm working as a legal aide, and I really don't think I should be an attorney. Maybe another profession that requires arguing? :)

  25. I'm a dreamer, so my "when I grow ups" have been all across the board. From anesthesiologist to fashion designer to writer to who knows what. My "job" right now is wife&mama. It's a pretty good one:-) xoxo

  27. When I was little I really wanted to be an astronaut. I'm pretty sure that I'm okay with not being one now. I also wanted to do broadcast journalism which I'm actually sad that I'm not doing. It is a tough career though. I'm happy with my job now, but I know it's not a forever thing. Still dreaming :)

  28. These pictures are adorable. I honestly had too many things on my list when I was a kid. Not shocking since there are SO many things I want to do now as an adult. :)

  29. I wanted to be an architect then realized how horrible I am at math, then I wanted to be an interior designer and I'm not really sure why I didn't do that, and then I wanted to be a nurse and I have tried my hardest to be a nurse but I guess it just isn't in the cards! Now, I'm a teacher..

  38. love this post so much :) i always wanted to be in fashion - specifically design. so, i went to design school...all was fabulous - drawing, painting, concepting...all the fun stuff! - until it became so technical...pattern drafting, especially. reality check - there is more to fashion design than just doodling. my brain just doesn't work that way and i could not get into it - i am a true right brainer! so, i switched over to visual communications and now i am a visual merchandiser/stylist... still involved in the fashion world, but in a way that i learned that i am truly passionate about. i am happy with the path i chose - i have experienced and learned so much and am so grateful for it all. BUT...i do have bigger dreams for my future...watch out world! oh, i could go on and on...but i don't want to leave a novel of a comment! {oops! maybe too late?!}...some other time... XO brynn

  40. I wanted to be a doctor and I'm a nurse. Close enough right? haha. Going back to NP school soon. The doctor dream just wasn't what my true dream was... I would rather have more time with a family and raise kids one day!

  41. This is such a fun post. I have loved reading everyone's comments. From the time I was 6 or 7, I saw a National Geographic and I wanted to be Jane Goodall...Haha..And live with Chimpanzees. And no, I am not doing that. However, I do photograph nature....and now that I think about it--I would still love to be her--if only for a short time. :)
