cornflake dreams.: August 2011

wedding wednesday- bachelorette themes.

last friday one of my close friends had a mad men inspired bachelorette party. it was a lot of fun to get all dolled up and go to some swanky spots in chicago {the violet hour, people for sangria and tapas, and the ROOF at the wit}.

the mad men themed bachelorette party got me thinking about other theme ideas...lingerie and glam parties are my two favorites. a bachelorette party seems like the perfect time to decorate in pink, practice the perfect manicure and indulge in champagne and sweets!

what do you think of themed bachelor and bachelorette parties?
do you have any fun bachelorette party memories you dare to share?

this season it's all about the clutch--a trend that will continue right into the fall! thanks to pinterest, i have had my eye on a few clutches by k.slademade. i love the clean lines and unique prints!
1. teal leather clutch $62, 2. limited edition ikat clutch black and gold $78, 3. large pony leather clutch $68, 4. blueberry hill vintage clutch $58, 5. little pony leather clutch $48

k.slademade is generously donating a gorgeous Randy Vintage Clutch in Baby Ikat to a lucky Rendez-Vous New England attendee!

good things.

via, via

this weekend was FULL of good {wedding} things... by sunday night i was exhausted.

despite a rough first appointment (at bellas bridesmaids) i had two other dress appointments at nicole miller and jenny yoo on saturday with v helpful consultants.
trying on wedding dresses for the first time was pretty surreal...especially when they 'jacked you up' with the veil.
taking a break from wedding-palooza stuff to have dinner with h's cousins (deep dish pizza!)

sunday morning engagement photos!
our photographer, dawn was fantastic to work with and i cannot wait to see the final photos.
round 2 of dress shopping with my bridesmaids.
my ahmazing bridal consultant jessica at jcrew bridal on michigan avenue.
after trying on about 40 gowns...finding THE dress!!!
seeing my mom and grandma get excited when i came out in the dress.
seeing my best friend tear up when i came out...which made me tear up.
finding out that the dress is $1,400+ UNDER my budget. -- can you say shoes, jewelry and a sweet veil?!
seeing my bridesmaids in their dresses--they managed to find the perfect styles for their bodies and they looked fantastic!
booking our honeymoon flights!!! paris + amsterdam we'll be seeing you next july!

how was your weekend?
i hope all of my east coast friends were safe this weekend and irene didn't give you too much trouble.

friday's fancies #32.

this weekend i have FOUR different dress appointments, and i'll be helping my bridesmaids pick out their dresses AND we're taking our engagement photos on sunday. that's what i call wedding-paloooza. and i.cannot.wait.

in honor of our destination wedding blog crawl and everything wedding that is going on this weekend i have dreamt up my idea of the perfect wedding guest outfit::
dress $298, shoes $89, necklace $40, bangles $30, clutch $158

what are your plans for the weekend?
do you have any wedding dress shopping tips? what about for the bridesmaids?

wedding wednesday- say yes.

after being engaged for five months i am finally going dress shopping this weekend!! to be prepared i sought out some dress shopping tips from authority of wedding dresses- tlc's say yes to the dress. i have been watching the show for a couple of years now and it really makes dress shopping seem quite the event. i am happy to say that i'll be shopping with my mom, grandmother, maid and matron of honor. i have done my homework and i am going to try my best to follow the other "rules"::

Research- Start looking for gowns in magazines and websites, and bring the photos to your appointment. It will give your bridal consultant a general idea of the kind of dress you like: traditional, straight, empire, princess ball gown, etc.

Plan- Make sure you have enough can take six to 12 months to order a designer bridal gown. “It’ll take anywhere from nine months to 12 months to order your dress,” says Urshel. “Sometimes six months is OK, but in that case you will be limiting some of the dresses that can be available to you.”

Budget- Know your budget. A lot of people forget that they have to pay for alterations, a headpiece, a veil and undergarments. There are a lot of extras, and sometimes those extras can add up to more than the grown.

Keep Your Party Small- Do not bring an army of friends and relatives to your bridal gown appointment. Have one or two trusted partners -- your mom, a close friend, etc. -- accompany you for a second opinion. Bring people you can trust, and select a dress that works for you -- not for them.

Keep an Open MindListen to the consultant, and try on gowns she suggests. Gowns don’t always look as good on the hanger as they do on the body. Try on as many style as you can. “Do it; try everything. This is your chance to try on all the dresses in the world, and any salon should take the time to work with you to make sure you are happy.”

Wear Appropriate Undergarments- You will be undressing in front of a sales consultant you have never met before. You may also want to wear a strapless bra, or the salon may have samples for you to use.

Trust Your Instincts- You’ll know if the gown is “the one.” If you have to be reassured that a gown looks great on you, it’s probably not the right choice. Is this how you pictured yourself looking as a bride? Does the gown suit your personality? Are you comfortable enough in it to enjoy your wedding day?

whew! i think i can handle it! so excited!!! any other tips?!
how many dresses did you have to try on until you found 'the one'?

destination wedding- part 2.

let's get on a jet plane and travel off to our next destination... italy!!! the history. the art. the people. the food! i dream of vacationing in beautiful italian cities so why not dream up a destination wedding to the amalfi coast?! might have noticed that i have a split-personality when it comes to design- i love vintage, classic charm AND modern chic things. i think my actual wedding will be a mix of the two...

ciao bella!

destination wedding-part 1.

part 1? that's right-today i'm sharing my dream domestic destination wedding and tomorrow we're going international! my dream domestic destination wedding is charleston, south carolina. i fell in love with the city after a few visits and even managed to move there for a few months after i graduated college. i adore the southern charm, gorgeous homes and comfort food of the south. my dream southern wedding would take place outdoors with twinkling lights and tasty southern bbq...

the big chill.

this weekend my plans got a little mixed up.. so i took the time to relax, sleep-in and watch a few silly movies. one of the films i watched was the big chill. it's one of those movies i've always wanted to see but never did. it was entertaining to see the 80's fashion and haircuts (hello, kevin klien in super short running shorts!) the retro running sneakers were pretty sweet though and wouldn't mind a pair. i liked the story --a group of college friends reunite for a weekend at a large southern house after a funeral of a friend. and i loved the soundtrack- it's filled with dance in your seat motown classics.

have you watched any old films lately that you've liked and would recommend?

ps spoiler alert--i am SUPER excited about the next food network star! i cannot wait to watch the sandwich king!!!

wedding wednesday- shoes!

i loved all of your comments to yesterdays post... i am glad i am not the only baby crazy lady! okay so back to reality(ish)! wedding planning and wedding wednesday! so dream dress means dream shoes right? obviously the dress and the shoes should work together but since i don't have a dress picked out (i am going shopping at the end of the month!) i have quite a few shoe ideas! initially i was thinking sandals or flats...
 via, via, via, via

but these heels are pretty stunning too.. and i think i would be able to survive in some killer heels for a few hours.

what is your wedding shoe preference? do you choose style over comfort? traditional or something bright and fun?!

baby fever.

last week at dinner h's brother asked me what my last name was and what i was going to do after the wedding. i responded with WE'RE GOING TO MAKE SOME BABIES! (clearly i misunderstood the question). the group laughed... until i figured it out. yep. not talking about that...o man did that just happen?! crazy cakes-take it down a notch. for the record i will be changing my last name... and yes, we plan to have a family... eventually. till then i can gawk at little ones and dream about nurseries without all that diaper responsibility.

if you are feeling the baby fever check out a my favorite bloggers who are expecting:: kristen from a kapple a day, sydney from the daybook, sandy from sandy a la mode, bon bon from the whim wham life

do you have children? or do you want them in the future? what are your thoughts on adoption?
(ideally we would like to have one or two children and then adopt).

an afternoon in andersonville.

this weekend after h's brother left town we spent our entire saturday in andersonville. the swedish neighborhood is located north of downtown chicago and is full of great interior design shops, restaurants and beautiful bungleo homes. h and i spent all day checking out shops and taking photos...

gethsemane garden center - 5739 N clark street
vintage and interior design shops:: roost chicago,  scout,  the white attic, brimfield
my favorite thing to do when i am in a new neighborhood is find a bakery or sweet shop-- we went to george's ice cream & sweets for some ahhmazing peanut butter and chocolate ice cream. h prefers his beer so afterwards we stopped at hopleaf for a quick drink.

what is your favorite thing to do when you visit a new neighborhood or city?

psst... to see more photos check out my andersonville photo album on Facebook!
