wedding wednesday - switch up!

One thing i have learned while planning our wedding is try not to sweat the small stuff. h and i are x months away from our summer wedding and last weekend we met with the owner of our venue to go over some details. turns out he had some news for us- we are not able to have an outdoor ceremony. The park we were orginally planning on getting married at (across the street from the ballroom) is a public park and apparently the city is prohibiting all future weddings at the space. they want to keep it a public place...yada yada. after the initial shock > BUMMER > sad > panic (what are we going to do?!). i felt relived. now we won't have to worry about the weather, rain on the wedding or 100 degree temps. The planner at our venue assured us that we could use the ballroom space for our ceremony, move guests to another large space on the same floor for cocktails and back into the ballroom for dinner and dancing. crisis averted. now i just have to figure out how to decorate the space without spending a fortune on flowers.

have you seen any creative or modern decor ideas for an indoor wedding ceremony?

jillian

  1. It's so awesome that you were able to find the bright side of things :) I feel you on the whole worrying-about-weather thing - we'll be getting married outside at the end of July, and I keep wondering if I'm nuts (and if anyone is going to pass out...)!

PS - LOVE those indoor ceremony pictures!

  3. that's too bad about the venue! but you know what, it's better this way, now that you don't have to worry about the weather! my friend's wedding this summer was inside and she had these retro twinkly lights on the ceiling that added so much character to the space! i'm sure your venue will be BEAUTIFUL! :)

  4. Such a bummer to hear that when you were so looking forward to it, but that's great that you're being positive about the whole thing. Indoor weddings are fabulous and yours will be beautiful I'm sure! Go with lots of florals and a beautiful aisle runner - make the space unique and personal to you guys as a couple! Being inside lets you have a lot more creativity and fun with the space.

  16. Yes this is a good thing. It rained on our wedding day and I'm glad we had the reception inside. We didn't use as much decor as I thought we would. Mainly just used the space itself actually. Good luck Jillian!

  18. it will be beautiful no matter what! and it is kind of stressful thinking about the weather. a tropical storm starting to come in the day of our wedding.

also i think the flower garland would be a really cool thing to have behind you guys during the ceremony. i think it would be great for pictures.

  20. Take it from me, you will be so relieved on the day that you don't have to worry about the weather- I had an outdoor ceremony planned and it was like a ridiculously hot monsoon- the worst weather possible and at the last minute we had to reconfigure inside...if I was going to do it again, I would never have planned an outdoor wedding in a climate that can be so up and down. Your wedding will be gorgeous, no matter where it is!!!

  21. Honestly, I like indoor ceremonies a lot more than outdoor ceremonies in general anyway. They just feel a lot more intimate, and you won't be bothered by outside noises, traffic, weather, etc. Every wedding I went to this year had an outdoor ceremony, and there was always something wrong {it was too hot, too cold, too sunny, too windy, too loud, etc.}. So I'm glad you're taking advantage of this :)

Another upside is that you can use all of the same decor for both the ceremony and the reception, since they are in the same place. It really cuts a lot of costs down. You also won't have to pay for someone to take down both the ceremony and reception, cutting more costs.

My personal favorite way to decorate a space is drapery from the ceiling. Adding lanterns and lights make it feel like it almost is outside. And you can always rent trees to bring inside, which is a huge trend right now bc of the royal wedding, so there are a lot of places that rent them.

Hope this help. You know I'm always up for talking weddings :)

    xoxo,
    Joelle

  22. Oh man, I can imagine your initial horror. But you're right, DON'T sweat the small stuff! Sounds like it's probably a blessing in disguise. I haven't paid much attention to indoor decor since my own wedding but as long as you have lots of twinkly lights, it'll look gorgeous. I know you'll make it beautiful!

  27. There are a lot of pretty plants that aren't flowers. I can't think of any names off the top of my head but my cousin used a lot of "fillers" with plants she found in her backyard. I guess it just depends on the look you are going for ~jen

  29. I think it's awesome how you are trying to make the best out of your not so ideal situation. Sometimes in life we just have to turn our lemons into lemonade. You watch & see, this will all be for the best in the end. Can't wait to see what you come up with for decor!
