barcelona on bikes.

we started our spanish adventure in barcelona, then went to madrid, and then returned back to barcelona for two days. on our last day in the city we went on a bike tour, and it ended up being one of my favorite days. i love a good story-teller and our bike tour guide was pretty interesting. i learned all sorts of things about monuments, churches, spainish history, and the catalonia culture. if i could do the trip again i would START with the bike tour so we would have a little context when we were running around the bari gotic and stepping into random churches. i love getting "lost" and finding new things when i travel but i also appreciate the history behind a city's art and architecture. [the bike tour finally got us out to the beach too...MAJOR plus! it was gorgeous and the weather was perfect]

do you like to go on tours when you visit cities? or do you prefer to explore on your own?

jillian

  6. I prefer not going on tours although that's because I don't like having a schedule. But knowing the history of the place your in is very useful in getting the most out of your trip. Glad you had such a great time- makes me want to go on a bike tour.

  7. We love doing bike tours in Europe. They are totally the way to go to see so much of a city and learn at the same time. Plus, it's great exercise and fun! Looks like you guys had a great tour!

  21. I like to do a little of both; but tours allow you to learn so much in such a short period of time. My best friend just did the Barcelona bike tour and LOVED it! Can't wait to get back there someday.

  27. That looks like a lot of fun! I usually like to tour myself, howeverrr, I find you always learn something new when you're guided. It's a little this & a little that. ;)

  30. Looks like so much fun! When I was in Barcelona I just "got lost" and didn't do any tours, but looking back I should have done one just to get a bit of the background so that I understood more about what I was looking at :)

  33. Planning a Spain trip ourselves right now, for the first week of April. Curious if you have hotel recommendations for Barcelona- or places you found to AVOID staying at too!

    Thanks,
