wedding wednesday- heartbreaker.

last week i tweeted about the dress that broke my heart. it is absolutely gorgeous with fantastic modern detail but it is way over my budget. all of your responses were SO sweet and encouraging! don't worry i know that my perfect dress is out there and i do not need to break the bank buying it.

my dreamy dress is renee from amsale (it's a one shoulder faille de sire fit and flare gown with beaded floral detail at shoulder. and the best part? the back of gown features asymmetrical bow. le sigh.and it's just under $5,000.

ever since i started blogging i have developed a deeper interest and fascination with high end designers... all with pretty dresses that are way out of my budget (it's fun to dream but since i don't make millions these will have to stay in the dream folder. and i'm okay with that!) hello j mendel and jenny packham... i adore you. from afar.

have you ever had your heart broken by a gown? or a pair of shoes?
xo,
jillian

ps hop over to walking around where the sidewalk begins to check out my favorite summer recipe!

  1. Wow the Amsale is stunning... but I promise you will find something that you love even more! I know Neimans just had their sample sale in Dallas-- maybe in Chicago too? I would try sample sales and trunk shows! I think the fall trunk shows should be around Oct. Good luck and you will be a beautiful bride!

  3. If you are ok with the idea & willing to search, some sites like preownedweddingdresses.com have deals by girls selling designer dresses. Hope this helps! Hope you find your dream dress :)

Or maybe a family member might offer to buy it for your wedding present. My wedding dress was a wedding present from my grandmother.

I think Say Yes to the Dress has also ruined me.

It's tough having champagne taste with a beer budget, right? I know the feeling!

Yes I had to stop buying the bridal magazines because the gowns were way above my price range.

  11. Oh that Amsale is divine- adore the back! But....I KNOW you will find the dress of your dreams...if that one was meant to be, it would be in your price range and since it's not, there's definitely an even more perfect one out there for you!!!

  12. oh wow, that first gown would've broken my heart too.

  13. dozens of dresses have broken my heart, I know the feeling! however, I got my dress from David's Bridal of all places- one of Vera Wang's White line, and my one-shoulder beauty looks like a million bucks, but was only $1200! Her whole line there is definitely worth a look!

  14. oh goodness i love that Jenny packham gown...maybe if i start saving now it can be mine for wedding round 2...what?

  16. You will find THE dress! I know it! Remember Monica's dress from friends? It'll happen!

  17. Oh yeah, right there with ya girl! I, too, have expensive taste & will never be able to afford designer gowns (or designer anything for that matter). That first gown is absolutely to die for though!!

  18. That Amsale is so beautiful. And I have my heart broken DAILY by things I want and cannot afford. I just keep hoping I a) win the lottery or b)land myself a job where they pay me to shop...

Until then, I just look at lots of pretty pictures and admire.

  19. All the time. Which is why I try to stay away from even LOOKING at high fashion designers.

  20. Gorgeous! Hunting can be the best part and I'm sure you will find the special one the looks just as amazing as J.Mendel and Jenny Packman!

  21. I always have my heart broken by a gown or a pair of shoes! That Jenny Packham gown is gorgeous! MAYBE you should look for vintage dresses, or go to a bridal place, tell them your price range and what you like and go from there! Does Kleinman's have an online shop!?

  22. notttt to hurt your heart even more, but it is beautiful. that back detail is amazing... buttt I'm sure you'll find another one that you will love just as much!

  23. That is definitely a heartbreaker of a dress!! You would be amazed at the sample sales and floor dresses that boutiques are willing to sell at a discounted price. Regardless...that are so many stunning dresses out there...I know you'll find a perfect one!

  24. Oh Jillian, I feel for you!!!!! :( I know you're no where near VA (they can check inventory for you) but you should check out this designer gown treasure trove.

  25. That dress is incredible! And I definitely understand...I found {and tried on} my fair share of $5000 gowns. Probably not the best idea, but it helped me figure out what I wanted. I knew that I didn't want just any dress from David's Bridal, so I hunted like you wouldn't believe. I finally found my perfect dress at a thrift store, believe it or not, for only $100!

Be patient. You'll find something that yo love. I promise.

    xoxoxo,
    Joelle

  29. You know, when I found my dress at a bridal store on Oak, I fell so in love but knew it was way out of my price range. I tried to find a cheaper gown but nothing compared. So my mom agreed to help pay for it but only if we could negotiate enough to get it to be a reasonable price. THe gown I tried on was about 4 sizes too big and waaaay too long but we ended up walking out with the sample gown in hang for half the price!

  30. Tres, tres gorgeous!!! You will find something equally as gorgeous, though...maybe even when you are least expecting it :) I nearly had my heart broken by a dress, but then...when I least expected it...miracles happened! Life has funny ways...even with wedding gowns ;) xoxoxo brynn

  31. ooo dress shopping is so stressful! have you tried on a lot of dresses at a lot of places so far?

    ReplyDelete
  32. Very pretty! The blogging world has definitely opened up my eyes to all things design too... so much more out there that I would have never come across. I love the inspiration & prettiness :)

  33. Head over to Weddings 826 on Armitage. I found my dress there...I didn't break the bank, but it looks like it cost way more than it did! I had the best experience there! Good luck :)

  34. Your dream dress is soooo gorgeous, but as the other girls said, I'm sure you will find an even dreamier dress in your budget. I'm engaged too and looking for the perfect dress, and have yet to find one, so I look forward to more of your wedding dress posts :)

  35. I totally love that dress, understandable heartache. A Monique Lhuillier broke my heart when I was wedding dress shopping. I settled on a much more affordable option but then allowed myself to splurge on a deeply discounted pair of Manolos instead. Best of luck shopping!

  36. that first dress is gorgeous! it took trying over 35 dresses before i found mine. give it time (and be open to trying on things other than what you "pictured"). i had a clear idea of what i wanted...and then wound up getting a totally different style. lol

  37. Those are gorgeous dresses!

Don't worry - you'll fine one you LOVE.

I went to one store, in my itty bitty hometown where I literally never thought i'd fine THE ONE there.

But, I did! and she was just $450! (:

  38. Ah that dress is amazing!! When I was in NYC once I was shopping and saw this amazing dress at Bloomingdales. It was gorgeous and I knew it would be perfect to wear at my rehearsal dinner. But, I wasn't even engaged and didn't have the budget for it. I still think about that dress!

  39. i love the flowy j mendel dress!! yes, you are correct.. Your PERFECT dress is out there somewhere!!

    ReplyDelete
  40. I looove the J Mendel dress - the flowy material is gorgeous! And, yes, I've had many a heartbreak over dresses :)

  41. I can completely see why you're in love with that dress. The details are just exquisite-- modern and romantic at the same time.

But sometimes, you can love a dress on a hanger/model, but not be smitten with it once you put it on. So try on as many as possible and you'll just feel it.. you'll know when it's the ONE. Can't wait to see your lovely dress.

P.S. Yep, I've had my heart broken too..

  42. The dream dress is a dream. Absolutely stunning!

    ReplyDelete
  43. You poor thing! I can't imagine how awful that would be, but you're absolutely right! Your dream dress is still out there - now it's just up to you to find it! Keep us posted! PS- loving your wedding board on Pinterest, you're so inspirational! :)

  44. Hang in there...the dress search is agonizing! But, as my aunt once told me, if you can't afford it, then it wasn't really the perfect dress! Yours is still out there, and it'll be stunning!

    ReplyDelete
  45. Oh Jillian, I can see why... that Amsale is stunning! I have my heart broken or at least let down on a constant basis by shoes, typically Jimmy Choo's or Brian Atwoods at least until I can find an acceptable less expensive knock off. Good luck with the dress hunt and I know you'll find something equally as gorgeous!

    ReplyDelete
  46. GORGEOUS dresses! i ended up spending double what i had planned on my dress and cut back in other places. i think it was worth it in the end :)

    ReplyDelete
  47. My dream dress is a Monique Lhuillier all lace gown that's around $8,000 new. It's definitely a heartbreaker and incredibly over my budget, but I'm sure I'll find something that suits me. You will too!

  48. Those are some gorgeous wedding gowns!! Love the detailing on the back of the first one! I can say for a fact that my heart has been broken numerous time by pairs of shoes!! guhh!! I know you'll find THE dress very soon and it will make you feel and look spectacular!!

  49. I still think about my hearbreaker way too expensive gown that i had to turn down. such bullcrap. sorry love

  50. Girl, I feel for you! If you can imagine, the 1st dress I ordered for my wedding never arrived. Three weeks before my wedding I started looking again - talk about cutting it close! I was able to find a sample from a high end store that was totally out of my price range before for 50% off! And it needed no alterations. I ended up loving this dress more than the first. It definitely was "meant to be" but still was so hard going through! I know you will find your dream dress and you will be a beautiful bride! Love your blog :) xo

  51. Oooh, these are lovely!! I hope you find one like these within your budget. I'm sure you will. And you'll look beautiful on the big day! ♥

  54. When I was about 13 I fell in love with the most beautiful boots I have ever seen - an exquisite pair of white boots from Louis Vuitton, embroidered with a veritable garden of flowers and butterflies. My heart still breaks when I think of them, almost ten years later...

  57. aww i can see why you fell in love with that dress jillian! it's so pretty and has the most unique details. i'm also huuugely obsessed with anything that's one shoulder. but i promise you that your dream dress is definitely out there!!! keep looking!
by the way i had a blaaast with alison at the boston bloggers event last week. she is so friendly and fun! i'm sad i won't get to meet you when you're here in september!

  58. Oh darling, no wonder you fell-that dress is magnificent. But the truth is that if you can't afford it, it ain't the one. You're going to find something that makes you look spectacular and doesn't destroy your wedding budget!

  59. Something that I wish I had done was spend a little more & then plan on selling it after. Did you think of any options like that?
Regardless, whatever you wear will be absolutely perfect!
