summer things & sunday dinner.

it's august! vieeerd. where is the summer going?! luckily i had a v summery weekend full of pool time, bbq, sunshine and bike rides.... i am still smiling thinking about it.

h and i had a little movie date on friday night. cedar rapids was pretty funny (it helps that h was laughing like a crazy person). on saturday i caught up with the girls at brunch and spent the rest of the afternoon at the pool- it was perfect. we grilled out that night and i had a super tasty chicken-apple brat!

on sunday we went to old oak tap with h's family. i love the large patio out front and the quirky interior decor. the ukrainian village spot has a range of american food and a v large beer list. i ordered the sunday special: carolina style pulled pork sandwich w/ sweet slaw, corn fritters and fried pickle chips. i'll admit i was a little disappointed (i still had lillie q's on my mind and it didn't compare. the fritters and fried pickle chips were tasty but not a good idea for someone with a sensitive stomach). h and his brother both ordered the black bean burger with cotija cheese, pico de gall, avocado, spicy aiolli on a egg bun. it was preeeeettty good for a bean burger and h had no problem finishing (his side of quinoa was a different story..ekks!) overall i was disappointed with my meal BUT i would return with friends to have a drink and an appetizer.

how is your summer going? any final to-do's?! i still want to take the water taxi from downtown to china town! and a concert at ravinia... hopefully we'll be going next week!

  37. Bike riding sounds so glamourous and romantic...I'm a rather clumsy fool, plus I live in the city, so it wouldn't work for me. But I love to THINk I could do it.

  50. Sounds like a perfect weekend to me. It's true, sometimes if a movie isn't over the top funny if the person you are watching it with is dying laughing then you end up laughing with them. Laughter is contagious. xo
