wedding wednesday- to do's.

when we got engaged i was SO excited. and then i got a tidbit overwhelmed by all of the pending to-do's. h to the rescue! he scoured the internet and came up with a timeline/ checklist of the things we had to do before the wedding. one of the things we wanted to take care of right away were our vendors (since they tend to book up in advance too!)
we needed a photographer, dj, florist and officiant. the catering is done through our venue
camera print, peonies via

i was pretty excited about finding the perfect photographer. i had an idea of what i wanted-- someone with a photo journalistic point of view with a touch of creativity and vintage flare. i found our photographer after doing a simple search on wedding bee and after after reviewing her website i was smitten. we scheduled an appointment and dawn blew me away with her photographs and style. i loved the vintage feel of her work and i cannot wait to have her photograph our engagement photos and wedding! check and check!

all photos are by dawn e roscoe and are being used with permission.
how do you keep yourself organized and on-task?
do you have any photographer tips/favorite shots at a wedding?

xo,
jillian

We finally just hired our photographer yesterday (so now we have venue, band and photographer). Next task is designing a save the date and choosing a florist. And wow is it all overwhelming!

how fun! Her work is great. :)

I have some high school friends who have turned out to be amazing photographers, so, even though I'm not engaged, I already have my photographer in mind!

I'm in the middle of picking our photographer right now too. It's making me so nervous to hear back from him. I emailed him yesterday and said we wanted to book and to send over the contract. I hate how long people take to get back to you!!

And I'm pretty sure we've picked our venue. Did I already ask if you're hiring a wedding coordinator?

Beautiful pictures! Our photographer is where we spent a little more than we planned...our thought was that we'll have the pictures forever and the day goes by so fast and we didn't want to miss anything.

Ah love Dawn's work!! We're using Tim (http://www.timtabstudios.com/) for our wedding and engagement photos and we're so excited.

In terms of a checklist I've been using the one in Real Simple's wedding addition. It's broken everything out so neatly and it's helped me stay on track.

The Knot.com had a great timeline and budget tool that really helped me! It's just nice to know you're on schedule and within a pre-set budget. And your photographer looks awesome!!! Congrats on getting that checked off your list! :)

A good photographer was one of the top things on my list. I had a wedding coordinator since I planned a destination wedding so she was a huge help with giving us suggestions and definitely kept me right on schedule with everything.

I didn't want things to be too structured with the photographer on the day of the wedding. I wanted things to happen naturally. So, we gave him a brief run-down of our schedule so he knew when to be where and we were set! :)

Looks like you guys chose a superb photographer, hooray!

Google Docs was our best friend during the process. It helped keep us organized but any organizational spreadsheet will help. If you're good at excel, use it. And find something good to keep all your addresses on file - I STILL use our doc for that and update it any time anyone moves. I used several different checklists because I didn't like certain aspects of different ones. And I went to Martha Stewart weddings for so much.

IT's a daunting task but you'll realize how smart you were for planning the wedding a year + later. I don't know how people do it in so little time!

There are sooo many amazing photographers in the chicago area...that was the hardest vendor (for me) to find. Now I am going crazy finding a florist.

I just posted my e-pics that I took in the city...check them out. :-)

I've just found your blog via Mo Pie, Please. And so far I'm hooked, I love it! And your photographer - wow, what a great choice!! The only way I keep organised is to write list after list after list. Then tick off as I go. Boring, but it gets the job done (and so satisfying to tick something off!). :)

A good photographer is so key. Try not to get too overwhelmed. I know it's easier said than done, but your wedding day will be amazing no matter what happens! :)

My husband thrives when he keeps my calendar organized. When I ask him to organize something for me you would have thought I had given him the best present in the world. I would be lost without him.

Congrats on getting big things accomplished!!! I was so happy when we had all of the major things booked. Photography is the one thing I was kind of disappointed with from our wedding. Our photographer was great, but I wish I had given her more direction on the specific photos I wanted. Like my grandmother and I dancing or my sisters and I. I have the formal photos, but the candids aren't as good as I hoped. Definitely write down EVERY photo you could possibly want and give it to your photographer.

Great post, Jillian! It can be quite overwhelming...part of the reason why we chose to have a 2 year engagement :) I accomplished 2 majors in the first year - dress & venue. I have also gathered loads of inspiration over time {thank goodness for pinterest!} Now, we are working at chipping away at the other vendors. I think I just found our photographer!!! And we know who we want for our dj...just need to schedule a meeting ;) So, basically, just working through the majors first and then it's all about the details {the fun part!!!} xoxoxo brynn

She looks like a great photographer! Choosing a photographer was my biggest task too. I'm so grateful that we got the person we did. Aruna had only shot about 3-4 weddings before ours, but BOY did she have an eye.
I am excited to hear more about your wedding!

We got married two months ago and I was like the planning ninja of our house. I think the best thing I did was to update our to-do list frequently (and keep it on the fridge) so we could see progress. Also, I highly recommend making a running order of the day and a personal itinerary for all involved. On our wedding the personal itineraries saved so many phone calls and headaches of 'where should I be now?'

ahh, I guess getting engaged might be a little overwhelming because there's so much prep to do before a wedding. But those pictures are SO lovely.

Her work is so fab!! I'm not planning a wedding but I would imagine choosing the photographer is going to be the most difficult thing for me to do. Looks like you found a great one!!

You should get a corkboard or whiteboard and pin up your ideas and lists on it! Kind of like Elle did in Legally Blonde 2! :D Can't wait to see everything done! :D

PS making a list totally helps, and having a specific time of day to call the photographers per say helped me plan prom in High School [not the same as a wedding, but still!]

I have been building a list of favorite photographers for about two years now. I am personally a photographer so this just wasn't for my future wedding, but also to know what I liked and what my goal was. Best of luck finding one that best suits you two!
