trend-fail.

i finally bought an oversized gold watch online the other week... it has been on my wishlist for months.
i was super excited about my gold monster watch but that excitement went away after about a day. it felt like it was eating my arm-- i literally couldn't bend my wrist because the watch was so big. fail. once i finally admitted the oversized gold watch goodness wasn't right for me i opted for a smaller rose gold watch which fits perfectly (and compliments my ring!)

have you ever had a trend-fails?
what trends are you loving right now?

xoxo,
jillian

  2. awww sorry you were disappointed with it! it looks great in the pictures... :/ i'm still trying to get used to colored tights! there are some colors that i love, like mustard, but am having a hard time pairing them with stuff!

  3. I love the oversized watches too, but I have such slender wrists, so they look terribly ridiculous on me! :( Darn! They're so cute though!

  4. Half of my life has been marked by trend-fails. Just push on through it, and hope there are no photos recording your fail.

  6. oh girl...I am with you on the oversized watches. Granted, I've always been a fan of dainty watches for women. I have seen some oversized watches and like them in theory but haven't gotten on board with them. Glad to know you tried and didn't like it! now I don't feel so guilty!

  7. I have an oversized rose gold watch which I absolutely love. I can't wear it to work because it's too big and weighs down my arm when I'm typing. So now I have a work watch and an "everything else watch." Kind of a fail, but also gives me an excuse to own two awesome watches.

  8. I've avoided watches for as long as possible because my wrists are tiny so I can only imagine buying an oversized one! It would probably weigh my arm down haha. I'm sorry that you had a fashion fail! I hate when that happens. =/

  9. i love oversized watches... but i tend to take them on and off throughout my day. same w/my jewelry. sometimes it just doesn't work for everyday, but i definitely still try :)

  10. Big fan of oversized watches, too but they always get snag at my sweater sleeves : ( No fun, but great round up!

  11. I'm loving the rose gold watches this season. They're so fun and not everywhere....yet. I've had a few trend fails, the huge watch was one for me as well since I have the smallest writsts ever!

  12. oh yea, definitely had my share of trend fails! i have the same issue with the big cuff bracelets - they can be SO heavy, and after i get annoyed with them once i'm always reluctant to put them back on! fashion and comfort do not always co-exist (and i admit, i usually choose comfort!)

    :)

  13. I love oversized watches too! I have small wrists so sometimes I feel like they are too big and sometimes too heavy! But I'll still wear them! Happy Wednesday! XOXO

  14. i think i like the outfit/glasses even more than the watch!

  15. really?! i love oversized watches. i got mine from fossil and haven't parted with it since i got it for my bday 3 years ago!!

  16. I got a rose colored bf watch in the kids nordstrom department for only $16 and wear it pretty much everyday!! It wasn't as chunky as the Michael Korrs watches (or $220) and fits my wrist perfectly!! We're definitely the Rose Gold Twins!! :D

  17. I love oversized watches!!!

  18. Ohhh boo! I hate when you love something, only to find out that it's not a good fit. At least you were able to upgrade to something else! & a bonus that it matches your ring! :)

I"m still loving the oversized white watches. Luke bought one for me from Fossil for Christmas & I love it!

  19. yay for checking something off your wish list! i love the way oversized watches look!

  20. Ahhhh! I have been eyeing a chunky gold watch for quite a while! Michael Kors to be exact. But I too have freakishly teeny tiny wrists so I would probs run into the same issues!

  21. haha, I totally understand. I LOVE the oversized watch look, but my wrist are just too small. the rose gold watch you ended up with is lovely, though!

  22. The watch you got instead is SO cute!! I love the oversized watch look though but maybe just for a day ha! Good luck finding your dress! Surprisingly I found my dress the first day :)

  23. Awww bummer! I have tiny wrists myself and it took a little while to get used to! But now I love it. The rose gold sounds perfect with your ring...I'm glad you found something you love.

  24. My closet is full of them can not seem to let them go :) Love the watch but I know what you mean, I have not gotten one because I feel it would not look good on me, I be willing to sacrifice my wrist if it did though...

  25. I bought a big one last year after seeing everyone have one and I too felt like it weighed me down. SIGH

  26. Aw, that's too bad to hear! I hate it when you get so excited only to be disappointed. I ordered a black long sleeve maxi dress from Asos back in December. I was sooo excited to get it but then I tried it on and it looked awful on me so I had to send it back. Too form fitting in all the wrong ways! So I'll still get into the maxi trend, just with ones that are a little more on the free flowing side!

  27. That is a bummer to realize you and a trend just aren't a match... but at least you found a watch you love!

  29. I am a huge lover of the big gold watches...and love mine. However, the hubster thinks I look like a retired grandfather about to hit 18 holes. Sigh

  31. I've been wanting a big "mens" watch too! Thanks for the tip. I don't want to end up looking like Flava Flav:-) xoxo

  32. Oh No!!! That's too bad. The watch is gorg!!

  33. Awww...I'm sorry to hear that! It's always a downer when you have a trend/fashion fail, especially one that you have been coveting for so long.

And lordy, yes....I have had MANY. I cannot remember the latest, but that's probably because I've blocked it out :)

  34. Interesting! I too thought I wanted a big Michael Kors watch but I am a petite person so when I went to pick out a watch last year, I decided on a small Michelle watch that is comfortable and has worked perfectly. But of course I've fallen for plenty of trends over the years and wasted a little money. I try to go to H&M or Forever 21 if I'm going to buy into a super trendy item, rather than go the expensive route!

  35. ok- being 6 ft tall, i have lots of extra arm room for these big watches! where is that first one from? i have the big gold bf watch from fossil and love it!

  36. I know what you mean! On my wish list is a Michael Kors gold ladies runway watch. It is the perfect size especially for those Oxus with tiny wrists.

    ReplyDelete
  37. Oh my goodness I have a Michael Kors rose gold watch that I just LOVE and want to get so badly. I am glad the new watch is perfect for you :) I have to go check out your ring now too hehe xoxo

  38. i love the oversized watch trend but i have freakishly small wrists and find it hard to find bracelets and things that fit. I would probably have the same issue as you with the large watch. I like my tiny bangle one my mom got me for graduation. :)

    i wander, i wonder

  39. Oh no! That's not fun :/ I feel what you mean though! I have super tiny wrists, so it would probably be the same. I usually stick with using my cell phone for time now as I always forget about putting a watch on anyways! Haha!

  42. I LOVE this trend. I don't ever wear watches, but I've been thinking about getting one myself lately.

  44. I've been drooling over oversized rose gold watches, and holding out because I just know the same thing will happen to me! Maybe I should consider that Fossil number, too...

  45. I have always worn a "man's watch." I love the bulkiness. It does taking some getting use to. I think wearing it looser works better! Gorgeous selections! xo Samantha

  46. Love that you went with rose gold and DYING over your rose gold engagement ring! It's beautiful!!!!

  47. This one time I thought I could pull of skinny jeans tucked into boots... it didn't turn out so well. I know better now. :)

Your watch, on the other hand, sounds awesome! I love the chunky menswear trend, especially in the image of the model with the striped skirt.

  48. i love the first watch! unfortunately, i can't wear watches. They just bother my wrist too much. But, I love looking at them!

  49. Hey girl I gave you the lovely blog award! I love your blog so much xo

  50. I was considering getting a similar rose gold watch as well but decided against it since I don't know how often I'll actually wear it. If I change my mind, I'll definitely consider the size of it.

    ReplyDelete
  51. Yes! Dont compete with the ring J! :)
Lets see- my recent trend I would have to say would be trying my sequin tank over a sheer floral shirt J Crew style. thats for size 0's only!
I did not even leave my room let alone the house!

I still am loving chunky wrapped bracelets! tons!

  52. thanks for the warning about this trend. i love the look, but didn't consider that it might not be practical...haha

rose gold watch to match your ring sounds like the perfection solution!

  55. hate those trend fails :( definitely had those - wedge shoes?! i die for them.....but at 5' 8" in a world of 5' 4" people....i just look awakward :(

    ReplyDelete
  56. Oh...so sorry it didn't work out. Looks great, but if it doesn't feel great...it just cancels out the style factor.

Flats like Tory Burch and Lanvin are my style fail. Sadly...with a high arch they just don't stay on! Love the look though.

  60. The same thing happened to me! I was dying for a Michael Kors watch for Christmas, but the oversized watches just looked ridiculous on my tiny wrists. I'm now on the look for a small and dainty vintage watch instead.
