finding the perfect place

As i mentioned on friday h and I visited a few wedding venue options this weekend. we saw the morton arboretum and two chicago park district buildings. I wasn't in love with them, but they are still in the running. I have always dreamed of a modern and chic venue for my wedding. we both want something untraditional and are looking for an alternative to a hotel ballroom or country club. After hours of research there are a few unique options in Chicago but there are a lot of things to consider. The majority of my guests are coming from the western suburbs and parking is a huge concern. We also have to finalize a guest count list (150-200) and pick a date (may or june 2012).... but we do have some time to look around, these three are our style::
i love the exposed brick and greenery, but it might not be big enough for a sit down dinner and dancing:: a new leaf
the large windows are striking and the space is a blank canvas:: prairie production
a large brick blank canvas in an industrial area of the city:: MCA Warehouse

single ladies: where do you envision your wedding? something modern or traditional? a hotel? country club? golf course? destination wedding?
married friends: how long did it take for you to find the perfect place? and how far in advance did you book?

friday love.

calligraphy by joelle from love is home

no links today just a lot of love and thank-yous :)
a huge thank you to all of you for the sweet comments about my engagement! i am bursting with happiness and i cannot stop staring at my ring and kissing my finance! thank you to joelle from Love is Home, for the beautiful quote in her smancy calligraphy (above) and helping me personalize some notecards (i'll post these soon!). thank you to the wonderful bloggers who participated in the Spring Escape Blog Crawl and finally thank you to the ladies who were kind enough to guest post while i was on vacation. i am so grateful to have such supportive family, friends and followers (that's you!) so thanks a bunch and have a fantastic weekend!

ps a huge happy birthday to my dad :)

the ring.

i have had quite a few requests to share a close-up photo of my engagement ring. i can't stop starring at it so i guess it would be selfish to keep it all to myself :)
the band is a little pinker in person, just the right amount of a rose-gold hue.
it's exactly what i wanted and it is incredibly sparkly in person. the ring was custom made by a jeweler in my family... a hybrid of a couple of rings that h and i saw together. i must say i am pretty smitten with it :) i always thought that i would want a diamond wedding band but i want the engagement ring to stand out on it's own, so i am going to get a simple rose gold band instead.

what does your dream ring look like?

this thursday h and i are leaving for a mini-vaca to portland, oregon! i have never visited the city but i am super excited to check out the gardens, food carts, micro-breweries and markets. i was lucky enough to get a few tips from holly (little miss holls) who i am meeting up with for drinks and becky (shopping is my cardio). with their suggestions and a little google research we have a pretty packed 3-day itinerary.
have you been to the city of roses? do you have any travel tips? must-sees?

let them eat cake.

happy mardi gras! last may h and i took a weekend trip to New Orleans, i have never been to the city during Mardi Gras and I am sure it quite party with lots of treats, including the infamous king cake.
the first time i heard about king cake was in high school french class. after a few bites i was shocked to find a plastic bebe doll in my pastry. who bakes a cake with toys inside?! i didn't realize that finding the bebe meant i was responsible for buying next years cake... good thing it was senior french class ;)

if you are feeling ambitious and want to make your own kings cake, check out this recipe (it has tips on where to put the little bebe).

i hope you all have a fantastic night and celebrate mardi gras with a sweet treat! i will most likely be having a girl scout cookie or two. or four. what about you? what's your favorite sweet treat?

weekend review.

this weekend h and i decided to skip going out to the movies since the weather was snowy and roads were icy. we stayed in and watched the kids are all right instead, and dreamt of summertime, vegetable gardens and dining al fresco. i would love to have some outdoor space to entertain and relax. my dream garden would include a garden, a lilac bush, and some sort of swing.

what does your dream backyard look like? do you have a pool? a vegetable garden? fruit orchard? gazebo? hammock? tire swing?

color crush: coral

along with yellow, i have a bit of a color crush on coral! i try to wear my skinny coral belt as often as possible, and i am pining for a bright coral bathing suit.

what do you think? will you incorporate coral into your wardrobe or home?
