weekend review.

this weekend we celebrated my mom's 50th birthday! with the help of my dad and brother andy, we successfully coordinated a surprise luncheon at her favorite chinese restaurant with 45 of her closest friends and family. i was shocked my family managed to keep the party a surprise... but it was priceless to see my moms face :)

if you follow my tweets, you might have noticed that i watched the oscars and had lots of opinions on all the fashion and acceptance speeches. overall i thought it was an entertaining show, although james franco was a little awkward at times. anne hathaway is not one of my favorites but she is growing on me and she looked gorgeous most of the night (i especially liked the flapper-esq swingy dress!).

did you enjoy the award show? let's play fashion police:: who was your best dressed? worst dressed? my picks:: best: mila kunis :: worst:: amy adams

happy monday!

  1. Hello from Mingle Monday! That is so awesome about your mom's party! What a fun thing to do. I watched the Oscar's and James Franco was a bit awkward at times. I loved Anne's dresses!

  2. I felt like James Franco could have cared less where he was and that Anne basically carried the show for him. I wasn't really blown away with many of the dresses and speeches...no tear jerkers like Sandy's or Monique's last year (I think it was last year). I actually liked Amy's dress...I think it was the sparkle...but her hair or the jewels...there was something that wasn't right. My favorite...was Celine Dion. She looked amazing!

  4. I'm so happy your mom's party went well! I love surprise parties :)

As for the Oscars, I haven't really had a chance to look closely at anyone yet {we were at Jimmy Kimmel and couldn't take out our phones to check anything}, but I thought Hailee Steinfeld looked absolutely stunning and completely appropriate for her age. She is really a beautiful girl, and even if she didn't win, I think she has a long acting future ahead of her.

I did like James Franco and Anne Hathaway, though I do have to agree that he was a bit awkward at times. He's just so damn cute though.

And my favorite speech was Melissa Leo's. I thought it was genuine and sweet.

    xoxo,
    Joelle

  23. Hi from Mingle Mondays! My favorite was also Mila Kunis by a long shot. The worst for me was Mark Ruffalo's wife--did you see her getup?? My oh my. Anne Hathaway also wore a horrific dress at one point--blue, shiny, and looked like rubber.

James Franco is such a hottie, though, huh??

  24. I loved Mila! I also really liked Halle Berry, which I usually do not. He was def. acting weird!?

  25. I totally agree on the Amy Adams! The shoulders on that dress made her arms look enormous! and they really aren't! By the way what do you use to make your collages? I love how you put them together!

  31. i bet your Mom loved her little birthday bash!!
as for the Oscars, i happened to be at a bar when it was on, so i couldn't hear anything, but Anne seemed super animated and i loved all of her gowns! i have heard many lament about Mr. Franco. i take it he wasn't a good host at ALL!

  34. I completely agree with your worst dressed pic although I thought Reese Witherspoon's prom like dress and fake looking hair was close :( I normally love Reese's red carpet looks (especially the dress from when she won for Walk the Line) but I just wasn't feeling it this year...

Hope you are having a great week and I loved your feature over at long distance loving :)
